So, the basics?
Ice Trap is a new trap skill, and it's quite amazing. Scaling it is possible in various ways, we choose Lowlife+Crit.

Why choose traps?
No Reflect, no Corrupting Blood, safe to use, good DPS.

Benefits of this build over other trappers?
DPS is just as good if not better, your defenses are fantastic if you know how to use them, and you get to be a low-life like you always wanted to!

Main Defences:
Energy Shield Mechanics (After 1.38 secs, recover 43% of max ES/sec)
Wicked Ward (that recovery doesn't stop when you take damage, for the first 4 seconds)
Enfeeble
Temportal Chains
Whirling Blades + Fortify

Main Weakness:
Damage over Time (Bleeding / Poison / Ignite)

Current Stats (Level 92, 6L Shav, level 19-21 q20 gems):
~8020 ES (recovery start after 1.38 secs, ~3.7k/sec)
~21K Ice Trap tooltip (using Inc AoE for clear speed)
~29K with Flasks (actual damage, not including 47% Cold Pen)
~44K with Flasks and Elemental Focus (actual damage, not including 47% Cold Pen)
Temp Chains + Enfeeble Auras (also grant 10% More Damage - not included)
Shock with Shock Nova for 50% More damage (60% total with Aura).

6L = Ice Trap / Cold Pen / Cluster Trap / Increased Critical / Increased AoE / Less Duration q20
3L = Discipline / Blood Magic / Clarity
3L = Vaal Discipline / Increased Duration / Rallying Cry
4L = Shock Nova / Trap / Cluster Trap / Less Duration q20
4L = Blasphemy / Enfeeble / Temporal Chains / Lightning Warp
4L = Whirling Blades / Faster Attacks / Fortify / Flame Golem

Thoughts:



Gear TLDR:
All ES Rares, need 30 STR on gear, resists, and Crit Damage/Crit Chance/Spell Damage/Flat Damage for Spells.
2 Jewels = Cheap Construction (10% Reduced Duration for Traps, +1 Max Traps, eventually with +% Charge Duration). Once you get a 6L and add Less Duration, you'll only need 1.
1 Jewel = Energy from Within (27% Energy Shield, eventually with +% Charge Duration)
Ring = Dream Fragments
Belt = Sunblast (eventually a +4-6% AoE one)
Chest = Shavronne's Wrappings
Amulet or Boots = Eye of Chayula (+1 Curse, if you can, for 20% Crit + Power Charge from the Occultist) or Skyforth (late, late, LATE game). Barring some sort of INSANE amulet, a +1 Curse Eye is probably BiS.

Updated, and explained. Next points for me are Frenzy Duration + Frenzy Charge, then respec to 8% Mana + Jewel (near CI), then respec to Fingers of Frost. If I pass level 96, the same applies...

I leveled as a Trapper, even before the Sunblast. Since it was the start of the league, no one had a Sunblast for sale until quite late, so it kinda sucked...

I recommend leveling as a Caster until you get to level 37 and get Sunblast and 2 x Cheap Construction. Any caster will do, really, since most spells work fine atm.

If you dont mind answering a few of my questions im pretty new to traps. What do you take out in a 5l. Also which gems are important to get quality? Ty

You eventually get all gems with Q, by doing the GCP recipe once it reaches level 20. They all matter. Less Duration is outright useless without Q20, and is your 6L (until you have that, use 2 x Cheap Construction jewels).
