help me understand item value/prices :)

hey guys!

1)
I picked up the stuff neversink suggested (green and red)
and now i try to understand what is worth what and why.

f.e., neversink says these 2 items are good (green):

anyhow, http://www.poeprices.info/ says the first one is 5 chaos and the second one 1 chaos.
approximately true?
shouldn't they have more sockets or damage?

2) neversink tells me to keep any flasks and rings/amus. even plain whites. why?

3) it seems to be possible to modify stats, amount of sockets and links of rare items.
as I only have a 50-150 dam 3L bow, is one of the following bows worth to be crafted?

4) Am I right that chaos and exalted are the common currencies ? how is the exchange rate?

5) why is neversink telling me these items are "GOOD high level rare bases" ?

thanks so much in advance, I hope I can figure it all out soon :)
best

Hi
Currency ratio and market
http://currency.poe.trade/

item market
http://poe.trade/

think that good start for you
the only good item you have there is the death bow which you can try to link and then alch. all other items are vendor fodder.

i don't use neversink's item filter, you may have a look into that text file because sometimes creators explain why they recommend certain items types. or ask him in a pm or look up the thread where he published the filter (just google it).

reasons an item base is good:
- the base allows the item to be chanced into a desirable unique item
- it's implicit stats (f.e. the increased stun duration of the maul) scale well with affixes which apply just to the item itself (energy shield, crit ...)
- it has a high item level which allows for higher affixes

Spoiler
affixes (also called mods) of an item are divided into prefixes and suffixes, an rare item can have 3 of both.

For general advice on the value of items:

If you like lots of text here's a comprehensive guide to poe.trade and pricing rares:

https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/44szfj/how_to_price_your_rare_items_and_what_to_look_for/

If you don't like lots of text here's a quote from myself:

"
First, you only pick up good bases, i.e. body armours with the highest or nearly highest base armour, weapons with highest damage etc. You'll have to learn those bases (though item filters help a lot), and can look at something like http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Body_armour to quickly find out which bases are good.

Second, you need high rolls. In leagues that have gone on for some time or in Standard, that means tier 1 or tier 2 rolls usually. But which stats do you want on your items?

The short of it: Weapons used for dealing damage need %increased physical damage + flat physical damage + attack speed. Body armours and shields need high defense (ES/armour/evasion) + good life roll + resists. Other stuff needs mostly high life + high resists though boots need movement speed as well, and helmets can be good if they have very high defense (ES/armour/evasion). If one of these stats is missing sometimes you can master-craft it on. You can see what is considered high for a certain stat at http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Affix - 25% increased attack speed is great but 25% increased physical damage is very poor. There are some stats which are almost always useless and can be ignored: accuracy, flat life regeneration, stun recovery, damage reflect.

But: be prepared that even with careful choosing ninety percent of items you identify will be vendored, and almost all the rest will only be worth five Chaos...a body armour with 1.9k armour and a high life roll but little resists won't even sell for two Chaos. A good weapon base with high physical damage (increased and flat) but no increased attack speed (and no way to mastercraft it) isn't sellable either. If you're not sure about the worth of an item search for similar ones on poe.trade and price/vendor accordingly.

Also pick up 6-sockets (vendor for Jewellers).

Your staff is bad because it doesn't have any wanted high-tier rolls (though it would be decent if it had +1 to all gems in addition to +2 to cold gems). The mace has only mid-tier increased damage and neither added physical damage nor attack speed so pretty unsellable.

Regarding your other questions: Flasks are good if you don't have many in your stash already since you'll need five per character plus some interchangeable resistance flasks. If you have enough don't bother picking more of them up. Rare amulets and rings are worth picking up if you're doing the Chaos/Regal recipe (which you should) since they are usually the bottleneck for those recipes.

Sadly, crafting gear is usually much less efficient than just buying the gear you want. If you are unsure about the questions you asked I would really advise you against crafting your own stuff for now. None of the bows you have are worth crafting. Six sockets is not bad but it still takes quite some Fusings to 5-link (or even 6-link) from that.

Chaos and Exalted are the currencies most used for buying and selling, yes. In Standard an Exalted is about 60 Chaos, more in Talisman. If you want to get an overview about some ratios, either look at trade chat for a few minutes or look at currency.poe.trade but look at rates both for buying and selling. So if someone is selling Exalted for 70 Chaos and someone is buying Exalted for 55 Chaos the current ratio is somewhere in between.

Regarding the "good" items: none of them are good. All the filter shows you is which items have good bases, for example Mind Cage or Necromancer's Circlet have high base ES so are worth picking up and identifying while Tribal Circlet has low base ES and won't ever be good even with good modifiers. But the item filter doesn't check the modifiers (like %increased ES) at all.

agree with the above

rememebr to consider the fact that most loot filters don't try to completely take all of the loot that's not epic off the screen, thereby devaluing a major part of the gameplay experience.

also, some loot filters will filter depending on the area level. so you could be rushing your buddy who's 20 levels lower than you and stuff is showing up that is really garbage.

ok thanks guys, especially scrooge for the detailed answer.

allready helped me alot!
