Highest DPS archer?

So, folks, I'm fairly new to this and I"ve been seeing lots of builds that sure look interesting, but it has recently caught my eye that someone said the Scion would be better due to the new patch. So, I`d like to ask your collective knowledge who`s the highest dps archer? I'm currently a lvl 11 Ranger and I haven't spent any of my skill points. Are there any skills that pretty much all builds sink their points into or does it depend on my objectives?

IMO right now, and especially after the next ascendency patch, it'll be a chin sol/point blank, crit, burning arrow HERALD OF ASH build.

essentially you gather as much single target damage as you can in order to generate the most amount of overkill damage, and you scale the overkill damage INSANELY from curses, +dot damage, +aoe damage, +burn damage, +fire damage, +damage.

you'll easily be sitting in the millions of DPS. the only downside to this is how small the proliferation aoe effect is, making it somewhat difficult to spread with only one shot. i did this build a year ago and it was insane. with all the new DoT passives, support gems and recent buffs, and the soon to come ascendency trees, the damage has become unreal.

its no joke either. you'll instantly melt bosses and rogue exiles if they are close enough to something you hit and kill in order to catch on fire. and im talking instantly.
even if its just a single target boss, your single target damage is so large that you'll destroy them within a few casts anyway.

Your approach to learning this game is wrong.

First of all - there is no highest damage archer. There is different archer builds and setups with a high clear speed, which is something else completely. Also some of those builds will be more all-round than others.

With that said: You are lvl 11 (which means you played the game roughly 1hour) and you are very new. The highest damage builds are for wealthier and more experienced players. You should not bother with "omgzzzz insane mirror item deeeps build" - you should avoid them like the plague.

If you want to play a good starter bow build here is what you should do:

Buy a Chin Sol bow (pay around 1-3 chaos orbs)

4L rain of arrows, physical projectile damage, added fire, faster attack (AoE)
4L trap, puncture, more traps damage, physical projectile damage (Boss Killer)
Use hatred and herald of ash for aura's.
Use blink arrow for get-away.

Get hp, resistance on your gear.
Get movement speed on boots.
Get physical damage and crit chance / multiplier + hp on your quiver.

Use this specc for the first 70 levels (normal help oak, cruel help kraityn, merciless help kraityn)

This build is very starter friendly and has a good all-round mix of tankiness, utility and offense.

Later on you should go for frenzy charges and critical chance / critical multiplier.

This build can clear most of the game with a 4L (I did atziri at lvl 84 with a 4L setup easily) and once you have acquired enough wealth you can make a few adjustment and play any style you want.
