Path of Exile overheating GPU

So, I recently tried a party for the first time ever.
It's nothing special, and there weren't any ninjas in case you were wondering.

But I digress..

As it turns out having a ton of effects on the screen puts a lot of load on my GPU causing it to overheat and subsequently crash my computer.
I seem to recall other threads on this forum about the same sort of issues. So without any official patch from GGG to fix it, has anyone come up with a clever solution?

vsync is on.

Will pull apart computer tomorrow to pull out the tons and tons of gunk in there. I'm sure my dog left most of his winter coat in there.

most obvious fix, make sure to clean out the computer for dust. And assuming you have a dog from your comment, most definitely clean your computer out for hair. You could also use overclocking software to run speeds at max settings. The one who makes the graphics card had their own OC software usually. Sapphire uses Trixx, for example.
I bought an Antec DF-85 last fall to combat that... nothing like 12 fans to help with cooling... ;)
Well hello Mister Fancypants. Well, I've got news for you pal, you ain't leadin' but two things right now: Jack and shit... and Jack left town.

Does it also sound vaguely like you got an industrial AC standing next to you?

LOL, yup! Certainly can't leave it on at night, wouldn't be able to sleep!

The price for staying cool I guess.

Anyway, seeing as how I've neither the money nor the inclination to buy some crazy cooling gear.
Are there any other ways to reduce PoE's GPU load?

Already have all settings at low.

If you're like me and live in a place that has cold winters, try opening the windows in your room :)

You simply shouldn't be having problems with GPUs overheating if you aren't overclocking. They are designed to be able to run at 100% on factory settings and keep themselves at a safe temperature with just basic case fans helping with airflow. If you clean your system out and it's still overheating (and isn't overclocked) then there is something wrong with it.

When I started playing PoE last summer, I was in the same boat. Tried many things, nothing worked. Buying the case was my only option. Dropped my GPU temp by 20 degrees(C).

Well to tell the truth, I'm not actually sure it's the GPU overheating.

Here is what happens (it can happen during the Vaal fight too):

I'm playing merrily.
Sudden screen goes dark, computer freezes.
Computer reboots.

SpeedFan checks of GPU temperature shows it hovering in the 64 - 70 degrees Celsius soon as computer comes online again.
I could be something different, I've not noticed the problem with anything other than PoE.
It seems like it might be overheating, as I've had it happen before with older graphics cards.
