Why is my Tornado shot base damage so low?

Just switched back to TS from ice-shot as another experiment in mana cost and I notice my dps before Hatred is really terrible like 3.6 k and I'm level 75. With hatred it goes to 5.6. I don't recall ever having this bad dps at this level on TS even without Bis crit gear.

Right now 29% chance to crit TS links: inc crit dam, faster att, phys proj damage, LMP.

Even with a couple crit rings I don't see it improving too much although I realize it would help a bit.

Tornado shot hits targets multiple times so the numbers you're seeing are lower than your real dps with the ability. Here's a simple breakdown for you:

Tornado shot's first arrow has 100% chance to pierce, so if you aim it past a target it gets to hit it before it explodes.

Once it explodes, each explosion from tornado shot can then hit the target again. If you're running greater multiple projectiles that means it can hit up to 4 more times, for a total of 5 hits from a single tornado shot.

So not sure about tooltip dps, but with you're probably doing about 3 times that much on average with up to 5 times that as a possibility.

Also your build is a bit wierd. Not completely messed up, just a bit wierd.

Tornado - GMP (or LMP if you have +1 arrow quiver or insanely bad damage) - added fire - physical projectile damage. Next gem is weapon elemental damage or faster attacks if you like that better. if you don't have good crit gear (which you don't have yet) you can use increased critical damage as your 5th link.

Also you can do the neat budget trick and buy a well rolled Lioneye's Glare. Your bow has 251 dps. A well rolled Lioneye's Glare has 347+ dps and only cost you 2 exalts in warbands. Its practically free.

u need more crit, and CRIT multi.

Thanks for the responses I'm going to check that build and see what I could do better with lioneyes although I guess I'd back off the crit then. I did see a build TS with one. But not much rng in currency and only sold one item so far worth a bit of coin but not over an ex so not sure on these other usual build items. But yeah, heralds are nice but I can't run one with Hatred and Grace unless I ran off BM but that would be a bit tough to do.

Btw iceshot was really nice but in a 73 zana (Poorjoy oww) it was hopeless even with 11k dps so their resists or health really put a damper on it. So we'll see-- thanks.
