Additional unique bosses and map drops
There have been a lot of threads discussing the current map drop rate, but I'd like to touch upon a slightly different issue (EDIT: Upon further thought, it isn't really different, it's a part of the same issue)
In the 2.0 patch a change has been made that disallowed bonus unique mosters - Rogue Exiles, Beyond Bosses and, I presume, Invasion bosses - from dropping maps. What this change meant for me is that I'll no longer try to group up monsters in order to spawn beyond bosses, and I'll no longer spend 8 chaos to get the anarchy Zana map mod. I like challange, but I'll be honest - challange without reward is just that - a challange - and I don't feel that the risk of dying is worth the satisfaction you get after you've beaten that challange. Exiles and other additional bosses, unless you use some MF gear, drop a couple of rares that, in 99% cases, go to the vendors anyway, and that can hardly be called a reward. What do I propose? Make the additional bosses drop up to +1 maps only. Give them a slightly higher drop rate than rare monsters but a lower one than map bosses. This way, I'll have an incentive to face harder monsters. But that's just my opinion, I'd like to see what your views on this matter are. edit: thread title changed from: "One thing about the new map system I particularly don't like" - it just seemed too vague I'm not a native English speaker. I'd like to bump this thread.
One thing that's been bothering me lately, is that chests can drop maps, but the mentioned additional bosses cannot. And obviously opening chests does not require any skill and poses no danger, so I see no reason why chests should be getting a better treatment in this regard than stuff that can actually kill you. A couple of days ago, I ran a 100+ IIQ Abyss. Cleared the whole map, boss included, not a single map dropped. I decided to search for some stuff I might've accidentaly left behind (chromes, high ilvl bases, and so on). I spotted a chest, opened it and... a Core dropped. WTF. I'm not a native English speaker. I don't understand it either. Map bosses have become much more difficult. Imagine having two of them. Then you deserve a higher chance of getting a map.
The same goes for exiles. They make the game harder. If you succeed to kill an exile, you deserve a chance to get a map. Period. | |
I do agree unique bosses should be able to drop at least +1 maps.
Challenge should equal a chance for a decent reward. |

+1 it really is silly that big bad monsters get their most important drops nerfed.
But at least they fixed another aspect of the beyond monsters: they do drop rares nowadays. During the whole of 1.3, I did not get a single rare from any beyond monster, although I specifically rolled for that mod on maps. May your maps be bountiful, exile

But.. Risk/Reward is literally an illusion, just take a look at the bloody Strongbox system..

I though it was that they just don't get the bonus drop roll that has the chance for a +2. I'm pretty sure I had both Arsenal bosses drop maps in the same run.

" That's also what I understood from the patch notes and, from my experience, this is correct. This thread, however, talks specifically about additonal unique monsters that don't normally spawn in a map but can be made to spawn through various means (Map mods, Zana's device, etc.) I'm not a native English speaker. You do understand why Rogue Exiles don't drop maps?
There is a mod in Torment that guarantees every map has 20 of them. IGN: Chundaziri

Because exiles were made to no longer drop maps - this Tempest mod could be introduced. This is not backed up by any facts though, just a feeling. I'm not a native English speaker.
