Wanted: Mailbox System with Cash on Delivery

Not everyone keeps the same schedule as each other.

Lets say that Player X plays 10pm-1am. Player Z might play 5pm-8pm.

If X has an item that Z wants, they would never be able to make a trade. So...

Player X goes to the new Mailbox in town and writes a mail to Z with the included attachment of the item.

Upon including the attachment, a window pops up to the side with a list of currency tabs.

Z agreed to trade 2 Chaos Orbs and 1 Alchemy Orb for X's item. Therefore, X clicks the bubble next to Chaos and Alchemy and inputs the quantity desired.

X hits okay, then hits okay again on the confirmation, and the mail is sent.

Z receives the mail, and in order to accept the mail, must pay 2 Chaos and 1 Alchemy (much like buying an item from a vendor, only the sending player had set the price instead of the game's NPC vendor system.)

Sure, there are benefits to face to face trades.... But where face to face trades lack is where a COD delivery system makes up. (F2F requires both people online and together)

People would be able to trade face to face if they chose to, but COD would be an alternative.

(Btw credit to --link removed-- for the image of the column of currency. I'm assuming this isn't unfair usage of the image, however I'll remove it if asked.)

Well, a COD system could take any format. One would go like this. You put the item you are offering in the trade window and then send a trade window to an (offline) player. They put the item they are offering in return, and the same things happen. Once both sides accept, the trade goes through.

It normally goes into inventory, so you'd need some kind of protection for a full inventory on login, but other than that, COD could be simply deferred offline trading it's current form.

I personally would prefer public stashes with tabs that each had terms, as well as currency equivalents, but that's a different matter (and somewhat subject to debate, given the devs general need to avoid too fluid of a market for design reasons).

I like the sound of that! A downside to the Mailbox-COD option I provided is that my method essentially leaves the item in limbo until the other player has received and paid for the item.

What you suggest would enable a player to retract his trade at any time while holding onto his item. (Although if they were to implement a system like the one I mentioned, they ought to have a 3-day auto Return-To-Sender in the event of an AFK buyer.)

Still, I think the best way to host your idea would be a mailbox, BUT.. rather than send mail with the attached item, leaving it in limbo, perhaps a player could check his mailbox to see a list of pending trades, giving him a list to organize + pick and choose from (as opposed to trade notifications showing up the way they normally do) in order to keep tabs on his ongoing trades.

What if items post-trade aren't sent immediately to the player's inventory but to their in-game mail, provided mailboxes are still on the table? This would allow a player to collect his item at his leisure, without running the risk of a trade being unable to be finalized due to space requirements. Personally I feel that mailboxes are an essential ingredient to such a system.

Yes! It would be nice to form a guild amongst friends to share a stash with. Taking it a step further, perhaps ranks could be established in order to set privileges regarding withdrawals/deposits. I'm starting to bark up the tree of a particularly famous MMO *cough* so I'll leave that to better minds than me :P
