POE is always set to "updating" when I load Steam

Everytime I load up Steam POE wants to patch even when there is no new patch to apply. This prevents me from playing for 10-15 mins everyday after loading Steam until path of exile is happy it has finished patching a none existent patch.

The "patch" size it always tries to update to is tiny in file size (972kb) yet takes 15 minutes to download and apply every time steam is reloaded.

Any idea what this phantom patch is and why it insists on doing it every single time?

I do have the exact same problem! Well i found a few links and didnt try all solutions yet...:

this link is interesting for how steam works together with PoE (as its a non-steam-game)

Well i recommend to install PoE separate from Steam and add it later to Steam. That way you shouldnt have any problem with the updates...well im still thinking doing that cuz it takes a bit time downloading all the stuff^^.

I have the exact same problem. The three last days, everytime I opened POE, Steam was "updating" during about 20 minutes... The download does not even take 1 second, but it takes time writing to disk... I have a powerful computer and a SSD, this is really retarded...

This is the last time I install something from Steam.

Did anyone found a solution to this problem ?

Exact same thing is happening to me. It's not letting me launch other games that need updates because steam is telling me it's going to take 20 minutes to write this 560kb POE patch to my disc, after it took one second to download. This is insanely annoying because it's also blocking other games.

I do not have an SSD like the OP, but it's a good hard drive.

Only way to fix it is to restart Steam. I don't think it's Steam's fault because it's always worked before and POE is the only game bugging out on the download page.

i added poe to steam and i have the sime problem, if im turn of game and turn on again i dont need to wait, if im click exit on steam im usualy wait 5-10 minuts (not 15tho) so i dont think he will fix anything if he reinstall and add manualy
My game is doing this as well
If you check the patch notes, you'll notice there have been patches pretty much every day for the last few days.

I have no idea why it takes 10-20 minutes to download a 5mb patch though ( I get the same thing playing through steam).

idk if it takes this long without steam or not.

It doesn't.

It is due to the way Steam patches the game.

Because of the way the Content.ggpk file is setup, the only way for Steam to patch it is to do a byte-comparison and then patch the altered bytes. This involves downloading a separate copy of the Content.ggpk into their Steam cache, then comparing that version to the one that is installed, altering any differences. This is why there is a small download (ish) followed by a bunch of disk thrashing as it is attempting to compare and patch that file.

It's just one of the byproducts of using Steam to play Path of Exile as PoE was NOT originally designed to work on Steam. Steam release actually came quite a bit later... after everything was already written and the game was about to be released from Beta.
Ye i also read about how steam treats PoE. This is very disappointing...i mean i like steam and its features and i dont want to miss it :(.

So there is no other option i guess. Playing PoE via the original launcher or via steam with its issues?!
