Jon Snow on GOT (spoiler if didnt see the show)

I was thinking that regardless of what, Jon Snow was a dead man sooner or later.
Let's suppose that Jon never joined the Night Watch and stayed at Winterfell. He would have then participated in Robb's war. Considering this, there would have been a risk of him dying in the battles. If he didn't then he would have surely died at the Red Wedding with the others. We have to realize that Jon is similar in nature to Ned Stark. The reason why Jon became Lord Commander at the Night Watch was because of his charisma, kindness, likeability and general battle prowess and leadership. Those are great qualities that both Ned and him shared, however neither of them were cunning, wise, manipulative which in turned lead to their demise.
