Two Handed Melee Weapons Idea
So two handed melee weapons (swords, axes, maces, staffs) give you more dps, a chance at a six linked item at the penalty of no second item slot to get additional magic buffs from.
If we compare that to bows... you can equip quivers that give additional magic buffs. Though with quivers you cannot ever get gem slots. I was thinking that the game should add a "Gauntlet/Arm Guard" item. This item would act like a quiver for two handed weapon, where the character can equip a secondary magic item that never has slots in it. But still allows for some other buffs. I imagine it looking something similar to one arm armored gladiator style piece of equipment. Or perhaps a buckler sort of idea... This thread has been automatically archived. Replies are disabled.

This is one idea that I've been wondering about every time I use a 2handed sword in any game. Why no armguards? I like this idea.

mostly, 2h don´t get anything because weapons or skills used are strong
dunno about poe since ranged get all the bonus (slots/2h, quiver/mods, while beeing ranged) while melee skills/nodes *** and you don´t get any bonuses What can never be lent or earned? Somewhat, that devours everyone and everything: A tree that rush. A bird that sings. It eat bones and smite the hardest stones. Masticate every sword. Shatters every shrine. It defeat mighty kings and carry mountains on lightly wings. What am i? Last edited by Spysong192#7559 on Feb 11, 2013, 3:50:15 PM

" Bows are actually balanced to do comparable damage to 1h weapons, so in general a 2h weapon will do more damage. |

I think 2handed melee and bows should not be compared.
You need to compare 2handed melee with dual wield/1handed & shield. As it is now the only way to get a 6L weapon is to use 2handed. 1handed weapons can only have 3L max (as well as shields). So the trade off is that you can have a super linked item or you can have extra stats. All bows can be 6L (afaik) and they do not have a 1handed counterpart to contend with. I suppose the only real way to 'balance' 2handed melee and ranged is to remove quivers. That said, I still like your idea! I've always wanted to have one arm decked out in armor. And I do remember a game that you could use a 2handed melee weapon and also equip a small buckler but I cannot recall what it was... RIP Diablo franchise
RIP Bird Lovers of Wraeclast <BLÔW> Congrats Chris & others for cashing out! I don't blame you. I'll be saving money now... unless I start making a lot more. Can't wait to see if you guys start a new studio in six years! RIP GGG |

1+ great suggestion... an big great axe/sword holded by also big Gauntlet would be great
and its true that 1h bow + arrows give much more than 2h weapon.. not even that u have 2x more buffs but u alwas have better elemental dmg with arrows.. PS or :D OR! a Keyston for wielding 2x 2h wepons like in D2 but with penalty like in evry DnD game for exemple -10 % dmg primary hand and -15% from secondary hand Last edited by magar90#1043 on Feb 11, 2013, 4:45:02 PM

" Unfortunately that keystone would be over powered just because you could have a 6 linked item in each hand. Every build in the game would then be centered around it. |
