[2.0 Beta] Fire Nova Mine Build aka Thermonuclear Hop-o'-My-Thumbs !

// Disclaimer

I'm a frog, so excuse my english... ribbit ribbit !
This build is “under construction” and could need some improvement or adjustement depending on beta modifications until the official release. Your help is welcome !

// Disclaimer

First, I'm not a trapper or miner player at all. But when I saw Fire Nova Mine, I realize that could be fun to play with this skill ! So, I decide to make a test and was surprised by the effectiveness of the leveling even with a new character after the last wipe ! Now, I'm lvl 86, I have test the build thought merciless and maps and I think this can interest some adventurous players. Mine build are very rare at this day cause of trikky and specific gameplay. But, with the Tremor Rod, there is new possibilities for mine builds to arise !

Pros and Cons

Pros :
- Quite powerfull even in leveling period
- Not so expensive ! For the base, you just need the Tremor Rod (around 5-10 c in Beta) and for the next step you will greatly appreciate Carcass Jack (around 1 ex in classic mid-league).
- It's nuke mine party with big AoE and very good control by freeze/stun statut and knockback everywhere !
- With smoke mine, it a very safe and fast box cleaner.
- Some very bad map affixes (No regen, Reflect phys/elem) are just jokes for this build... it's like there is no affixes and you can enjoy the fat loot bonus !
- With Knockback / Freeze / Stun, you have a very good control and most of the melee mobs are not a threat at all.

Cons :
- Mine's gameplay is very specific and tricky, it's not for all player. Good timing and placement is needed.
- Poor tanking ability... you will have 22% of block with staff and around 15-17% of evasion but you need to play near foes and this can be quite hard.
- Until very high AoE bonus (+90%) phys/chaos archer ennemies are your worst nightmare it can perma-stun you to death in no time.
- Not so party friendly (wide visual flame wave will burst your party members and KnockBack will annoye melee players).
- It's a no-direct hit build, so you can't leech or LoH and only rely on potions.

Gears

Uniques

Tremor Rod http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Tremor_Rod
The must have ! The laying speed bonus gives a near instant laying time and you can detonate mine twice !

Carcass Jack http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Carcass_Jack
A classic ! AoE bonus and damage is very important for this build !

Optional : The Three Dragons http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/The_Three_Dragons
For a variation of the base build. With this item you can concentrate on fire et lightning damage only and have the freeze / shock statut more often than with the regular build

Global stats needed

For this build, you will need ES base stuff or ES / eva or armor stuff because you need good ES/mana pool (with EB) for your high consumption of mana with mine (84 mana per mine with lvl 19 Fire Nova Mine and 5L).

You need stuff with + max life and + elemental resistance. You need some + XX dexterity too for Carcass Jack requirement and some green gems.

Other important stat is Movement Speed, the best is a pair of shoes with +30% movement speed for effective placement

Potions

For this build I use 3 life potions, 1 granite and 1 Quiksilver.

Two of my life potions have the “Seething” affixe (-66% amount, instant recovery) for a better capacity of reaction when you take damage between the time you lay mines and the time you detonate them.

With the change of Spell Effectiveness of Fire Nova Mine in the Beta (75% -> 20%), this build is currently dead in this state. I will rework it at the final release ! ;-)

Right :[ This build looks really fun and since I never get past the 80s, you think this'll still be useable?

Yea man I was hoping to do something like this aswell, sad that they nerfed the damage effectiveness of this skill. Seemed like a cool way to scale it.

However, I'm trying out a fun combination of items now and I think there is a chance that this skill may still be usable. Especially after they increased the dmg 15% at all levels and the Fire nova mine cast speed.

Quickguide (a quick idea for a build ^^)
A: Try for a +3 fire staff (eclipse base) multi-modded with "socketed gems are supported with level 1 blood magic", spell critical strike chance, global critical multiplier.
B: equip kaom's heart, new or legacy.
C: reserve all your mana with auras for your liking (I try anger, hot, hoi despite the dmg effectiveness of 20%) you can't deny, it will still scale the dmg further.
D: be prepared for huge mana costs due to the 7link bloodmagic gem, I still have the dilemma that its really hard to obtain good life regeneration at the top part of the tree. Maybe its needed to use 1 or 2 of the unique 2% life regeneration jewels. With bloodmagic gem this skill can cost up towards 426 life (lvl 28) - knockback could be a really good choice here since it has no mana multiplier and the fact that FNM fires 4 novas. It will reduce the life costs to 335.
The numbers is calculated using the support gems (crit dmg, empower, trap and mine dmg, fire pen, increased aoe) remove crit dmg for knockback if you decide to do that. If you play a crit based build with this skill (you should) I'd actually go so far to say replace crit damage for added cold since you will have 300+% multiplier already. The freezes are really nice.

Blood magic vs. EB
Bloodmagic is one way to support the huge mana cost. Another option to using the BM gem/mod is a build travelling at the edge of the tree to pickup all the mine nodes, serpent stance, arcane potency, power charges, and bloodmagic in the end. Its a really strange build, but it actually looks good on paper. Best class for this is the witch or templar.
The big plus is that your life costs will be 100% less or more. I'm really concerned with the life costs otherwise. You will have to drop your auras obviously, but this is no big deal especially with the 20% effectiveness. In advance you can use Clear mind jewel - free 60% spell damage for having no auras. Also you can use the mod 65% spell damage instead of lvl 1 BM gem on the staff.

With kaoms and 200% increased life (jewels accounted for) should get you to 7K with a legacy. So 335 life is roughly 5% of your total pool per mine means you would need atleast some life regeneration to keep up. Unlike the Bloodmagic skill tree variant where life costs will be 176 per mine you can avoid the 2% life regen jewels and I think the base 1.8% life regen will suffice.

You can also use an ES shield, chest, and maybe helm slot (you have to drop alpha's for this) and spec into EB. This is especially great with mines since you dont spam them like a casted spell. This option will however force you to use a rare life/ES chest or a carcass jack. Also your FNM level will be much lower, but the extra crit and spell damage from wand/shield may make up for it. You will get less total life pool and speccing into mind over matter is not really viable with so high mana cost (I tried). Also the advantage of using EB is the free auras, but in this case the damage auras/heralds are not so good for us.

TL:DR - Blood magic seems like a superior choice.

If this build works as intended I will make a complete guide also including budget items like tremor rod, belly of the beast, divinarius and the likes.

With the new Ascendancy class for Rangers, Raider, this build might be revitalized.

Raider class has a point that says: "20% Chance to gain Phasing for 3 seconds on kill". Also has a "10% chance to gain a frenzy charge on kill" which might help with Phase Run (though if I'm not wrong, placing mines removes phasing from Phase Run).

And increased duration quartz flask are a thing too.

The problem is how to deal more damage, I guess :/
