Hmm. Perhaps, instead of WPs being deactivated, they only work one way? Otherwise, you would have to do the whole act in one sitting. Although that would open up the ability to just log out to return to town..... hmm.
it's an interesting idea, but you can get around it with TPs and strategic idling. plus once you hit maps, it's not really an issue. i'll have to ponder if there's a way of implementing it that gets around these issues.

Tarkleigh also mentions the usage of waypoints. I did not consider that.

Perhaps something like:

"Once the next area has been entered, you can no longer enter any previous area" (side areas are considered equivalent to the main area that they are attached to)

and{

"Once a map of any level has been entered, you can no longer enter any maps of lower level"

or

"Once any map has been entered, you may not reenter that type of map until you have entered a map of each type of the same level"

}

This would not prevent grinding, but would prevent people from going backwards.

As for maps, the first idea would be an interesting exercise in risk vs reward. Not only in terms of difficultly (as once you move up a tier, you can't go back down if it's too hard), but in terms of pool sustainability. Do you really want to move up to lvl 74 maps when you know that you might run out of them (and won't be able to move back down to 73 and below)?

The second idea prevents the possibility of 'map lockout' that might occur in the first suggestion, in exchange for forcing people to enter all of the other maps of that tier before reentering the same map type again. E.g. instead of just running Tropical Island at the 66 tier, which is what most players do nowadays, they would have to enter:

Crypt
Dried Lake
Dunes
Dungeon
Grotto
Orchard
Overgrown Ruin

Before being allowed to reenter a Tropical Island (likewise, after doing Tropical Island -> Grotto, they would have to enter the other 6 before reentering either of them). Essentially, they would have to enter full rotations of each tier before looping back around.

Note that they technically wouldn't have to run (or kill the boss) them, just enter them (though those would provide additional increases in difficulty if so desired). Also, this would restrict players to the use of 1 portal per map opened (as entering a second portal opened by the same map would count as "reentering that type of map").
