Energy shield glitch?

So I'm making a CI character for the first time and I ran into a problem while equipping rings.
While wearing the two-stone ring which has +13 maximum energy shield mod my energy shield went up to 201. When I equip the Sapphire ring which has only a +5 mod my ES goes up to 238. How does this make any logical sense? Can someone help me figure this out. |

Is the strength from the sapphire ring necessary to be able to equip some armour/ES item you're wearing? That's the only thing I can think of.
