[1.3.x] Baragwanath Elemental Heavy Strike Build | huge burn damage | end-game solo farmer

Deal big burning damage from elemental prolif + herald of ash by having big hits from heavy strike. Damage dealt is physical, lightning, cold and fire so that elemental weakness and elemental damage / penetration passives are scaled well and so that you can reserve virtually all of your mana while maintaining your heavy strike with 1% mana leech from physical damage.

Stats

- 6.3k life, 680es
- 40k tooltip dps
- ~7k armour (drop some life for armour nodes if you like)
- 69% and 50% block chances (with tempest shield)

Pros

- Clear speed! Great for solo play
- Good single target damage – you scale elemental damage by grabbing passives that penetrate resist and add 25% to burning, shocked or chilled enemies and also dual cursing to lower elemental resists further
- Good aoe damage – by having big single-target hits, you can generate great burn damage through herald of ash and elemental prolif (once again buffed by your elemental damage scaling and curses)
- Status ailments with resolute technique (10% inherent chance through passives, and another 10% chance with conductivity / flammability)
- Very tanky (if you avoid your blaring weaknesses)
- Very effective use of mana – You mana leech 1% of physical damage which is more than enough to keep up with the low mana cost of heavy strike
- Free to use as many instant heal life pots (which are 80% buffed from passives)
- Strong in pvp – unless you bump into puncture / chaos damage

Cons

- No life leech - Because your main aoe damage comes from burn you don’t have a chance to leech. You could use Warlord’s Mark as one of your curses but its not ideal when you cant ‘hit’ with aoe
- 2 holes in your defences – chaos damage and bleed hurt! This build has very low armour because it relies on block (uses Aegis as a buffer rather than focusing on it) so puncture is brutal. These are easily mitigated with flasks in PvE however
- Expensive gear – especially if you are going with legacy BoR and Aegis. You also need a high dps 1hander to leverage the overkill potential from Herald of Ash
- Need extra intelligence from gear or passives so that you can level up elemental weakness and conductivity (but its worth it!)
- Not worth your weight in groups! Because your aoe relies on hitting an overkill and because your overkill is dwarved by large monster life in groups, you don’t really burn much.

Why Heavy Strike?

- Very big 1-hit damage potential (follow up damage of static and molten don’t help your aoe burn from herald of ash)
- Very cheap mana cost lets you use 2 curses that destroy elemental resistance rather than using Warlord’s Mark meaning aoe and single target dps is great
- Because so few builds use it! Especially 1hand builds

Why Physical to Lightning

- It gives you a chance to shock single-targets, meaning you make up for the deficit of not having a follow up bonus hit like molten strike or static strike. And molt/static strike cost more mana meaning you would need Warlord’s Mark or mana pots
- It’s a new gem!
Why not static strike?
- What would you use as your 4th link in BoR? Melee damage on full life sucks when you aren’t on full life (orly?) and physical to lightning means you have no physical damage, leaving you reliant on Warlord’s Mark to mana leech (which sucks when you need enemies to attack you before the curse is applied)

Why not Molten Strike?

- Same issue around the 4th gem except that fire penetration is pretty darn good. I havn’t fully compared my build to molt strike with fire pen but using warlord’s mark would be justifiable as you would get decent life leech with it.
- Focusing on fire damage is great for a Marauder but you lose all chance to shock

Items

(2) 4 link: reckoning + curse on hit + conductivity (or flammability) + elemental weakness
(3) 4 link: herald of ash + elemental prolif + incr burning damage + reduced mana
(4) 3 link: reduced mana + hatred + tempest shield

The build definitely has holes in it but it performs very well in 77 / 78 maps if you know how to avoid your weaknesses!
Please let me know your thoughts / questions. I tried this build out recently and have just enjoyed it much more than my usual melee set up. Advice is welcome!
