Help me do my math nerds or I'll take your lunch money!

You dont rly have to worry about me taking your lunch money, I'm rly weak irl! It would be impossible for me to overpower you...

But I still have problems with my math.

Somebody please explain to me:

Is there a difference between solving an equation and just isolating part of it on one side?

First equation is

2(a-7)=10-a

Second equation is

3/d=15

Theese are not hard to solve, but I have lost myself to the abstraction between the 2 different? concepts.
Duh!

Spoiler
that's what my teachers all said about me when it came to math. I preferred History.
Spoiler
I like history too!

But I'm still lost in the abstract! Help me please! I can't feel my face!

Have you tried touching it?
You won't get no glory on that side of the hole.
Yes, it made me bleed, and my vision is blurry on my right eye. I should have used my weak arm instead...

Now help me with my problem you trolls!
Without checking Google first, I am going to guess that isolating part of the equation is meant make you work out the part you know before moving onto the part you may not.

I got that from Robert Heinlein.
Just found out I have to do stuff in reverse to get this right... I didn't know math had reverse!

I deserve food and sleep soon.

Edit: If I found a solution, I managed to forget. - stuck in abstract again.

I only had the simplest form of maths in my school days(very little, if any, algebra) and it was well over a decade ago, but the basic idea (I think) is that you can do whatever you want to a number on one side as long as you do the same to the other, and play around with it to isolate the variables instead of just guessing until you're lucky enough to get one wich fits.

Take the more primitive of the two, 3/d=15, or:

3
- = 15
d

we can...

1
- = 5 (divided both constants by 3)
d

the inverse of wich is 5(d) = 1

divide by 5 to isolate the variable and we have d = 0.2

Maybe we have someone on here who actually does maths who could give you a better rundown, this was the best I could do.
You won't get no glory on that side of the hole.
equation 1
The first equation you have to simplify to

2a - 14 = -a + 10
add A to both sides

3a - 14 = 10
add 14 to both sides now

3a=24

24/3=8

a=8

Equation 2
The second equation you rewrite as

3/15=D
3/15=.2
d=.2

Thing is I don't have to solve them, I have to isolate a in first and d in second.

My best attempts

1
Spoiler
2(a-7)=10-a
2(a-7)/2=10-a/2
a-7*a=10-a/2*a
a^2=5+7
a=√12

2
Spoiler
3/15=d

I'm quite sure I messed up in 1, but im quite happy with 2, but suspect I messed up that one also.

Edit
Spoiler
Help, I'm victimized by my brain!
