Frequent crashing during game play

Please note that I did in fact read the rules of technical support & the Common Technical Problems sections before posting this.
Problem: Game crashes frequently after it has been running for a little while (anywhere from 1-3 hours seems to be typical, although I cannot be more precise than that.) It will sometimes generate an internal error "cannot load" something or another. My apologies for not having the exact text. Then windows forces me to close the program. I can run the game again and everything is fine -for a while, until it crashes again. And again. And AGAIN. Attempted Solutions: Attempted a pack check as per webpage instructions. It reported everything was fine. Could not find newer drivers online for my video card (not sure if they're not out there or just not easy to find.) The texture resolution is already set to medium (in fact the game won't let me set it higher anyway.) I note that the Common Technical Problems section lists a known issue with the software that seems to be a very close match to my symptoms. All that was said as far as a real solution was that "We will improve the memory recovery system in future." Which is somewhat ambiguous. Does that mean next update, or some undetermined time down the road when players such as myself have given up in frustration? So my question then becomes. First, does this in fact sound like an instance of the known memory issue on 32 bit systems? If so I don't know what else to do to mitigate it. My system already has 4GB of ram and spending a lot more money to go higher for one buggy game doesn't seem like a solution to me. Any other suggestions? Second, and to me far more important, is given that the memory issue seems to be known, is this a problem Grinding Gear Games is presently and actively working on solving? A definitive yes here would go a *long* way because while the game is free to play I have put some money into it on the online store out of a desire to support what is clearly a GREAT game. However my frustration at the constant crashing (sometimes right in the middle of combat) has reached a point where I am honestly regretting putting any money into this game at all right now. So again, if this is a problem with a reasonably soon expected solution it would mean a whole lot. Thank you. My dxdiag report follows. Hi there,
The DxDiag suggests your video card drivers have not been updated in quite some time. I would start by getting some new ones from the manufacturers website. Let us know if that helps or not! No longer works at GGG

Problem: Game crashes frequently after it has been running for a little while (anywhere from 1-3 hours seems to be typical, although I cannot be more precise than that.) It will sometimes generate an internal error "cannot load" something or another. My apologies for not having the exact text

Thank you Mike, that advice definitely helped. I apologize for jumping to conclusions as it appears I certainly misdiagnosed the issue. The drivers were on the website (labeled as "amd catalyst software" instead of drivers or driver software or something logical. It was throwing me off.
It does still crash after a while it seems, but *MUCH* less often and never during the middle of combat like it did before. It has once crashed during a load screen after I have changed areas numerous times but that is it. As for the second advice Startkabels it is appreciated, however I'm afraid I don't how to locate the logs you speak of. I looked in the program directory however I don't see any evident log file. When next it happens I will write it down. However it was something fairly specifically about not being able to load a texture file of some kind this last time it happened -if that helps at all. Either way, given that it took several days since upgrading the video drivers just to get an error to occur I'd say it's not so much the issue it was. I thank you for your help and I will continue to monitor and see if further crashes occur. |
