Devourers dont give a damn about my Immortal call

These devourers didnt have any added ele dmg and map didnt either.

Somehow I almost get oneshot when IC is up. Wat is happening here?

hmm Immortal Call is definitely up when you are taking the hard shot.
played the video a couple times looking at the upper-left status icon, just to be sure.
and since it is a melee attack and not a fireball - it should be all physical.

map is Phys Reflect, but you are playing Incinerate so that's irrelevant.

my only probable explanation, is server-side you were hit before IC triggered, but we don't have a way to know for sure.

There is definately a bug or something wierd going on. I made a video to prove it

when you use Immortal Call as the devourers come out of the ground, you take full initial damage.

However if your IC buff is already up when they come out, the damage is completely negated.

Maybe it could be some patented wonky GGG programming at work here:

Instead of having the initial arrival and attack as two separate actions like you would expect, maybe the arrival and attack are all one action, but the damage is delayed?

Then when the game checks if it can damage you at the start of the action, since IC is not up that returns as true. When the damage is actually applied, it just continues along the order of operations picking up from the IC check.

Warning: this is all speculation from someone without a lick of knowledge about how the game works under the hood.

If that is true, it is only true for devourers, as you can see in the last part of my video, i negate Vaal smash damage just fine by popping IC at the last moment.

Strange that you can do last moment IC for Vaal smash and be fine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6weIJ-_5F4w, but suddenly same doesnt work for devos.


Maybe GGG could answer this. Why I can cast IC just before vaal smash hits and be fine, but if I try same lets say vs powerful crit extra dmg devourer, I might get oneshot?

Remove CWDT/IC or make it work same vs devourers too. Does it work this way because balance or is there some bug?

Now, to everyone saying "dmg is calculated when animation starts", that vaal video PROVES that it doesnt have to be that way. There must be other reason. Is it just laziness or "balance"?
I don't think damage is calculated when animation starts as you can run away, pop granite, or IC on many mobs. I most typicaly do this to whippings and it works fine. Not sure what is going on here.

It seems very probable to me that devourers are a special case. Their damage certainly FEELs instant.
The behavior that you're seeing would make sense if the damage is dealt at the very start of the Devourer emerging animation, which is specific only to Devourers.
another thing could be that some of those pop from ground damages are spells, since IC can t do anything against spell damages.
