linking steam to PAth of exile client

Hi,
I currently play PoE through the client downloaded off GGG site, in order to play it via steam, can i point steam to the GGG client or will i need to download the client as a new installation through Steam. I have limited data and am hoping to bypass a large download Thanks in advance | |

Edit: The data structure's different for Steam's patching process, so I'm afraid you will have to download the game through Steam, or get the files from someone else who also has it on Steam.

I'm sorry, Steam will not be able to play the game until it has a complete Steam version of the game at least once. If you had an old version of it, and it has not yet started the update, it is possible to temporarily play from an updated GGG version of Content.ggpk, but that's a pain in the butt to set up and keep up-to-date.
