Even though I'm very excited about 0.9.3 I do not really understand the reasoning behind the smaller alpha test first.
Right now I want to play PoE beta but i refuse to play it knowing that any feedback I give on the balance will result in a simple, yet true, "that's different for 0.9.3" or "wait for 0.9.3". GGG should utilize the beta testers more. Beta testers do not expect a fully working game, but they do want to be involved in development else they would wait for the final release. that's just my thoughts. Hopefully the wait is almost over. "Alpha testing is to find major flaws and bugs that basically break the game. We're looking for things that make the game unplayable, and trying to identify if and why some systems or ideas just don't work. If they pushed out every patch directly to beta, they could have thousands of people download the patch, only to find out that there needs to be another patch a few hours later to fix an unforeseen problem that simply can't wait until the next planned patch. Having a smaller testing group allows GGG to identify these issues early, so the entire beta community doesn't have to deal with major bugs, and can focus on finding the more secretive bugs and balance issues. It also saves them money in bandwidth costs for all the minor incremental updates that will eventually be rolled into a full version patch. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus. Well, of course I'm a little disappointed by any delay that keeps me from getting my greedy, grubby hands on .9.3, but I appreciate all the work/changes & considerations going on. Thanks for the status update. And thanks to the Alpha team, too. :)
