Disconnect/Time out while changing areas

I have a problem when changing areas. The problem itself is the following: I go from A to B and either a few moments or a few seconds later I see that I failed to join the chat because it has timed out and on top of that I can not see monsters, interact with portals and go back to the character selection screen. The only thing that helps is the exit to the login screen option where I usually rejoin the game and proceed to go from A to B this time however, creating a new instance. This solves the problem, most of the time.

My question is - obviously - what can cause this problem, and how can I fix it?

If required, I can post a WinMTR report, but I think there is no problem with my connection, as creating a new instance for area B solves the problem, thus the cause is the server handling my first, faulty instance of area B.

This problem wouldn't be this frustrating if portals wouldn't close as soon as you disconnect, though.
Hey grammydatroll. I'm sorry to hear you are having these disconnects when you are trying to change areas like this. Does this happen every time you try to change areas, or only in certain places? Which gateway do you play on? Is your connection Wired or Wireless? Do you have any other devices on your network? Are there any background programs running on your PC which could be using bandwidth?

Posting the WinMTR here would really assist us in this situation :)

Thanks for the answer Simon, uhm I basically it happens randomly -- which implies that no, it does not happen every time I try to change areas and neither when I try to join a specific area. It is truly random; it may happen when I am going to the Fetid Pools, it may happen when I enter the Imperial Gardens, so generally speaking, anywhere anytime.

I play on the European gateway, my connection is wired - and currently in a very good form as I recently had issues with it disconnecting all the time but my ISP fixed it and now I have around 40 ping at most with 5-10 jitter.

Another computer is running on the same network, potentially leeching the bandwidth; however I do not think that it could cause this as it happens when that computer is not even turned on - taking out the posibility that a Windows updates may happen to leech the bandwidth.

I usually have Firefox open, with tabs like poe.trade or 9gag open - none of which require connection after they have been loaded.

The only background program that could be using bandwidth is the Windows Update, but frankly, I do not believe that it was the problem.

Probably this: "159.253.137.132:6112" was the server I DC-d from, as the following 2 IP-s were the same and the following 2 instanced I entered after I relogged were the Sarn Encampent and the Docks - where I spent a lot of time and it can be seen in the log file, because it logs when I have killed something - but you probably know that.

Now, the WinMTR report... I don't think there is a problem, in my most humble opinion.

you need to run the trace to the poe servers, not to Google.

that's like trying to detect traffic issues between you and the grocery store by driving to the library instead. doesn't really make a lot of sense.
Oh right, sorry. I was awake for like 18 hours by the time I started WinMTR and thus a bit sleepy, forgive me for my derping yay :D

Again however, when I tried to join this "159.253.137.132:6112" instance server I got a timeout or DC call it whatever you want, the thing that matters here is this is the only server that gives me this error. It is alway this.

I ran WinMTR for a couple of hours - tracing to the server IP above - and this is the result - note that there is no 61% packetloss in reality, it is more likely a false-positive percentage; testing for packetloss through websites such as dslreports.com gives 0-1% packetloss towards "fibhost-66-148-225.fibernet.hu".. WinMTR might be crazy -:

Since this if a fairly good result, even though 4% of packetloss is a bit more than what you'd like to see I think the server that is adressed by "159.253.137.132:6112" just simply denies/drops my connection as soon as I want to connect to it.

Update #2: It seems like I am connected to the server despite that I can't see monsters or use portals and such. I am not entirely sure, but I just entered Merveil's Cavern on Mercilles difficulty where the waypoint lies close to the entrance; despite that I could not see the effect of activating the portal when I clicked on it, it was activated after I relogged. Unless it is activated automatically I think I am connected to the server however I do not get any feedback from it; Can it be that something denies the data sent to me from the server because of... well, some odd reasons?

Update #3: It is certain now that I do not get disconnected, I just dont get any feedback from the server. Dumbed down: whatever data I send to the server arrives, whatever data that server sends me never arrives. Confirmed through writing in guild chat and asking if they can see it despite that I have zero feedback.

After patch 1.3.0 constant but random disconnect on zone change is happening to me a lot.

It never happened before and I did not change any hardware on my pc nor my network router.

I've read the forums on this issue and GGG keeps saying that the problem must be "local" (AV/Firewall, router, etc). I fail to see how this can be local if:
- never changed a hardware piece nor software since the game run smoothly (prior to 1.3.x)
- every other game or web address works flawlessly
- even PoE works smoothly inside a zone. The disconnect only happens on zone change when the server should establish a new connection
- if this was local shouldn't zone change disconnects happened every time (I assume a local filtering from AV/Firewall or Router should not be "random")
- one other thing, isn't it odd that so many ppl posting on these forums but also on steam or MMORPG have the same issue. If this happens on so many different configurations (both hardware and software) isn't a server issue rather than a local issue ?

I've tried any tips posted on these forums without success.

GGG can you please pay more attention to this issue and fix it !
