Intermittent Disconnection issues / WinMTR in thread

Hi all, having trouble with some intermittent disconnection. I've been fiddling around with router settings and I think there are a bunch of red herrings confusing me.

I.E.

1) disconnects are worse when my wife is streaming Netflix, but sometimes I can play for hours with no disconnect even when shes on it.

2) disconnects seem to be better if I put my DSL router on b/g mode instead of b/g/n mode

From the WinMTR it looks like the routing through Level3 and qwest is the problem. I am guessing that the random nature just depends on how heavily those servers are loaded? Any tips?

Thanks in advance!

PS I forgot to mention, no other game/service seems to have problems. It's just POE. Maybe this is because servers are not in US?

The packet loss is nothing to worry about here. It's not dropping all your traffic, it's only dropping ping packets. As you can see, later there is no packet loss. And there doesn't seem to be any latency issue with the pings which do make it back.

if I put my DSL router on b/g mode instead of b/g/n mode

Is this on wireless? That is the number 1 cause of disconnects. Try getting on an ethernet cable if you aren't already. Modems/Routers distributed by ISPs are notorious for having bad wifi too. If it's impossible to have your network wired, get a decent home router and plug that into your modem.

If you already plugged it in, and eliminated your netflix traffic temporarily, and are still getting disconnects, it would be nice to see a report from when that is happening. I don't see any problems with the MTR report you provided, besides the wifi looking ping replies from your modem.

Cool thanks I'll definitely post one when its NOT working.

Ideally I can get one with Netflix running and working, and also Netflix running / not working.

The b/g/n is wireless yes, but the TV streaming Netflix is running off of it, not my computer

I'll post more info tomorrow

Well I fired it up and DC'ed almost immediately. Exit to login screen (so I don't die) > enabled WinMTR and played for a few minutes, but didn't DC again.

The packetloss % is higher this time but its still not everything I guess. I will try again tomorrow if I get a good patch of repeated DC's.

I DC'ed 4 times during this but still no packetloss.

I don't think it's those "max ping" of 200 either, I am waiting a full 4-5 seconds before exit to login screen.

Any advice? Maybe I just need a new DSL modem...?

Here's another one where I can't even play for 15 seconds before it freezes

There's nothing showing up in the trace as wrong. Have you tried a VPN to see if it makes a difference?
I can try a free VPN next time. Any suggestions on one to try?

Also I suppose I can rule out my PC setup by trying it out on my work laptop.
