Jewellers/Fusing spam "fully linked" ?
|
So recently was trying to corrupt Wondertrap shoes for +1 and as I was sorting through the pairs, noticed that Jeweller's Orb would stop applying at four sockets, but Fusing would still apply even 4L.
Was curious if this was the case with 6L? I see older threads mentioning "fully linked" but what exactly does that mean, seeing as how a 4L on boots/helm/gloves is "fully linked" yet I can still use an Orb of Fusing on it. † You were a good man in a bad situation, Fairgraves. † See what I am currently after here: 1767138 Thanks Chris! 2797098 Last edited by RaiseTheSteaks#5521 on Aug 18, 2014, 5:34:47 PM

As far as I know the way it works is max sockets will be locked as there's no reason to want less sockets and only a 6-link will be locked as there is no reason to want less.
My reasoning for this is that it is conceivable to want a 4 linkable item to not be 4 linked. For instance having a cwdt (cast when damage taken) gem and something with it in a pair of gloves with another skill that you DON'T want on cwdt. This may very rarely happen (I've done it once) but it IS possible to want to unlink a 4 linked item. However I can not think for the life of me why you would ever, ever want to unlink a 6-link so that's why it's locked. Other thoughts anyone else? Or a developer quote? Yeah I forgot about the 2x2L idea, especially with CWDT which I used before on my Marauder.
Still curious about the 6L though. † You were a good man in a bad situation, Fairgraves. †

I think you cannot use fusing on 6L (not sure if on 5S5L too). It used to be the same for other fully linked items too (when this feature was implemented), but it was changed.
sometimes it is useful to not have all the slots linked. For example if you want to link some skills to blood magic gem and need to have a buff skill that reserves mana in the same item IGN: Eric_Lindros CET: Timezone Last edited by Ludvator#6587 on Aug 18, 2014, 5:51:54 PM

From 1.0.0 patch notes:
You now can't use an Orb of Fusing on a fully linked item or a Jeweller's Orb on a fully socketed item. From 1.0.0.b patch notes: You can now use an Orb of Fusing on an item with four linked sockets again. The change made in 1.0.0 only prevents fusing items that have five or six sockets that are already entirely linked. |

Just burned a fusing on a 6L and it worked.
Damn that sucks. I hate the 6S and 6L parts clicking through. † You were a good man in a bad situation, Fairgraves. †

" And it was never changed? I just did a Searing Touch 6L. † You were a good man in a bad situation, Fairgraves. †

What's the item level on your Searing Touch? I know if the item level doesn't match the max sockets, you can still use a Jeweler's on an item and lose sockets. IE, this item: came out of a strongbox in Ambush with the "additional sockets" mod. The Item Level is 30, so it's max sockets is supposed to be 4. I think when a jeweler's orb checks item level, it decides this item isn't at max sockets since it doesn't have 4 sockets, therefore it can be used on the item. Once used, the most sockets I'd ever be able to get is 4, after which trying to apply the orb would fail. I'm not sure, but perhaps a fusing works the same way. Like if your searing touch is item level 35 but has an extra socket from coming out of a +socket strongbox, maybe when determining how many links your max is, it looks and sees that an item of that ilevel would be fully socketed with 5 sockets so 5 linked would be max. Since your 6L isn't 5L, it lets the fusing get applied. Just speculating. Because you're not supposed to be able to break a 6L with a fusing. Trying to should get you the "failed to apply" message.
