Upgrading old* points packs. GGG should change their policy.

*Not that old.

I found out yesterday that apparently the points packs I purchased back in Feb '14 are no good for upgrading anymore, ever. Considering I only purchased them thinking that I could turn them into a bigger supporter pack, I was really annoyed.

I searched through the announcements threads regarding the end of the old supporter packs and they didn't mention anything about last chance to use your upgrade rights.

This has stopped me from supporting the game more and I'm at a loss as to who it benefits. GGG support simply said it was 'out of fairness to other players' which is just odd as why would anyone care that I gave GGG part payment for a supporter pack ages ago.

Still annoyed. Anyone else the same or have an insight into this?
not sure the support forum is the right place for this (if it wasn't moved here). that said, support are the only people that can help you, and apparently they can't help you with this issue either.

it is out of fairness to everyone though. how were they supposed to know that it was a "down payment"? you should have told then so. I know they have worked out "payment plans" in the past.

at this point I don't have any more help or support to give. If you're clear with them, they will be clear with you.

Nope, sorry but it has always been known that the packs will be discontinued and left unable to upgrade the older ones once they are, as for looking

Tomorrow's the last day that you can buy or upgrade to one of the Supporter Packs that we added last year to celebrate Path of Exile's release. As mentioned a few weeks ago, we made a video explaining what's in each of the packs, so you can check out the in-game effects all in one place. Please note that we do allow payment plans and pack upgrading, but they must be arranged before the packs stop being sold. If you have any questions, just email support@grindinggear.com. To buy a pack, just visit this page. They'll remain on sale until midnight Pacific Time tomorrow, July 28. Thanks for your support!

The latest point packs have replaced the previous batch, and they are glorious. It's unfortunate that you missed your chance to get the Conqueror Pack etc, but now you know to look for the ending announcement, and that they offer up to 6 month "payment plans" which can give you a buffer to pay for it (no interest or shenanigans, it's a 6 month extension for those in before the lock).

If you get the standard 20 point packs etc, those can always be upgraded, and from Steam they can even be combined into the supporter packs. The support staff is very lenient and helpful when you are trying to pay them. You just can't go back and get the beta supporter packs or upgrade to the Ruler of Wraeclast Pack just because you want to make them design your monster idea or something. They are limited time offers which are deliberately unavailable when they feel like boasting new swag or in-game themes. (Chris and the others probably got mighty wrist cramps from all the signatures they had to do for beta supporters!!)

That's what I thought too, but it's not true! The OP is not talking about upgrading a supporter pack. He's talking about upgrading to a supporter pack with a plain old points pack (points bought outside of a supporter pack). I always thought this was true as well, but when I tried to use a $20 points pack that was purchased prior to July 29th (or whenever the last Supporter Packs were discontinued) towards one of the new Supporter Packs, I was told no. By a couple different customer service people. My argument was I would have rolled those points into a previous pack if I had known there was a time limit and then I'd have $20 extra bucks I could use on a current Supporter Pack. It makes no sense really. I have one $20 pack from prior to end of July and one from August. I wanted to use both and get a $100 Journeyman's pack. I don't like the back attachment in the Apprentice Pack so I'm not going to buy that one. So instead of them making $60 from me to get the Journeyman's pack, they get nothing. How is that better for them? Makes no sense. It's not like it would cost them any more to let me roll that in. All I got for it was 200 points, which would be deducted from the Supporter Pack anyway. Oh well. Simon said he'd pass my feedback to the appropriate people. But currently I have the same complaint as the OP.

Well, let's be honest here I'd have liked to merge my previous point packs into a supporter pack. Looking though my history I purchased 5x 200 points, 1x 500 and 1x 50 over the time (every few months), which could have been another support pack at some time :P

I feel like this has business reason behind it, which they may loose over. Maybe they could do something like other F2P games and add "reward" packs to certain point limits (that only account for the points directly purchased, not from support packs) where you, and while not getting any supporter packs, you'd still get some MTX stuff :)

For example something like:
1 free premium stash tab for every 250 points
1 free skill skin at 500 points
1 free footprint at 1000 points
1 free armor skin at 1500 points
1 free weapon skin at 2000 points
etc.
(would be awesome you could choose a skin within reason [or get xx points off for the more expensive ones], or exclusive ones, whatever they see fit)
