Does block have a cooldown? Doesent block and evasion stack? Diminnishing returns?
I have no clue why Im getting hit so much, only at lvl13.
I have 50% evasion, 40% block and 20% spell block. So if a mob hits me he FIRST have to go through my evasion, THEN he has to get past my block. If a mob has only half a chance to hit me, and even if he goes past my evasion has a 40% chance to be blocked. Then mobs should only have about 25% chance to damage me right? Is my math off? O.o Only thing I can think of is that maybe block has a cooldwon or diminnishing return? Doesent evasion and block work vs mobs that are flanking you? Mobs are hitting me way more than they should I feel! >.< |

How do you have those stats at level 13?
Nothing to see here.

I think it may roll both at the same time, meaning you can block and evade the same hit, but your overall chance to avoid damage would be lower.

" Melee ranger with rare shield and 3 points into shield passives using a unique that gives me 50% block chance applied to spells. Im also using tempest shield that grants 4% block if Im not mistaken. I also sidetracked one passive point for +18% improved evasion. My gear is also mostly evasion only (no armor, ES as Im going for acrobatics) |

" So you can only block OR evade an attack? I thought attacks first had to pass the evade check then the block check. Can a dev or anyone else confirm this? :S |

" getting 40%+ chance to evade is really easy early on... having some hybrid items normally already gives that evade chance (as i said early on, later it gets harder - TBH during the closed beta i usually always used the best eva items i found in races, because they are so strong in the begginig) and about the block: 40% is doable at that lvl and the spell block seems to come from a unique he probably had in his stash... Now to the OP: eva and block works agaisnt all enemies, so it doesn0t matter if they 'flank' you and there is no dimnishing return and cooldown for blocks. Your problems could be the area you are in and the mobs you are fighting: evasion chance is calculated for an average accurate mob of your own lvl, so if you are in an instance where you are below the lvl of the mobs they can have better chances than you think, and if you figh over average accurate mobs they also have a better chance (archers for example) EDIT: damn i type slow :S there was only one reply when i started writing this... " So evasion and block does give a two layered defense against getting hit? |

" Yes. Evasion is checked first, followed by dodge, followed by block. http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Hit_Damage_Calculation |
