Competitive PvE vs PvE
PvE games like POE are often not well balanced for PvP...
Instead, tower defense style competition, where two teams compete to better defend themselves or their village from an onslaught of menacing forces can be an easier form of competition to balance, because it just builds off of the main PvE game elements and features. Suggested new competitive game mode or race: Onslaught Defend your guild hideout from increasingly difficult waves of monsters and bosses. Spoiler: You will die. (Death is treated the same as for pvp) Waves of monsters can drop currency; bosses can drop currency and uniques (rare). Winning team receives a large chest. (Few item drops during event.) Next wave spawns after a short duration from when the first team finishes their wave. However if a timer also isn't met, not only will the next wave spawn but the timer is also permanently deceased for all future rounds (Dps check.) Players can respawn up to 3 times; however each respawn counter is progressively longer... worse, this causes some chaos as partial teams get overwhelmed by ever growing menacing forces... likely for a downward spiral and the win. The winning team can keep challenging the onslaught for increased reward. Both teams get rewarded for their merits. How long can you survive the onslaught? like the idea, it places team x team through indirect conflict, killing enemies better/faster, and I do so miss the large chests
Some things that may be considered: - Have the 2 battlegrounds in the same instance type/model (obviously) however in different spawned instances, so that a team doesn't have to put up with the effects/video lag thats happening on the other battleground. - While in this event display information about how the other team is doing via real time info box in a corner of the screen. - Instead of spawning ever bigger waves its good (and a change) to release fewer monster with mixed or more powerful mods (again to avoid video/screen lag & freezes, and no I don't have special graphic issues, the game on the other hand, does =]) - Have this as a style that group leader can sign the group for with the NPCs, not solely in races/guilds/events/whatever, max 5(?) players however can run with 4/3 if a group considers itself strong enough. - I do not see this mode as having any large appeal or profit to be constantly abused by bots. Edit: - Have player(s) free respawn but only at the end of every round/wave, as long a 1 teammate stays alive. "It is a cruel joke that man was born with more intent than Life." Interesting ideas. I'm pretty open. Most importantly to me, this format can combine with regular gameplay, PvP, and Racing for a well rounded set of experiences. Not that a PvE / PvP (MOBA) type hybrid is out of the question.
To be honest, what I really want to see is a format that can bring in thousands of viewers, increasing POE attention, such as an eSport. (And as I was saying, it can be hard to balance a game built for PvE for PvP.) |
