Path of Exile 1 Gameplay Help and Discussion - Ring: Add lightning damage - Forum

Just a quick question, i see some rings have this add lightning/fire/cold damage but just not too sure where they apply to. For an example, this ring have add 1 - 27 lightning damage. Such bonuses apply to your base attack damage. You get your base attack damage by adding together final damage of your weapon (seen at the top in blue numbers, and any elemental damages below that), and also flat damage from jewelry like the one you linked or other gear, elemental auras and such. That base attack damage is then modified by relevant percentage bonuses, affected by multipliers on attack skills and so on. Support gems that add damage (added cold, lightning and chaos), however, apply to the skill directly instead to your attack, so they also work on spells. Spoiler I am not that good as if I am good ingame then I wouldnt be here asking questions in the first place... They do, but pay attention on 'damage effectiveness stat' on certain spells, arc gets only half of damage that gems like added lightning provide, and fast spells like incinerate would get only 30% of it. You got damage per level tables for both arc and added damage gems so it's easy to see how much damage you're actually getting and is it worth it.
