Shrines in PoE - Pro Post

As the title states, I am making a post for the inclusion of Shrines in PoE. I will also make another post against it later.

In a recent posting, it was put forth that shrines from D2 should be in PoE. I argued against it in the post even though I actually like the idea. I was challenged on my liking it and being against it too. This post is to show why I think shrines could work.

If I was to include a shrine system into PoE gameplay, the shrine would have to blend into the game without unbalancing it. D2 shrine are player friendly only and therefore a nerf. This will not do. My vision is for shrines that can cause harm as well as help.

First problem porting D2 shrines, too many of them. They will need to be rare. Think the chests. Random and only one per Instance.

Second problem is you know what kind of shrine it is. Sorry, but hover your mouse over it as much as you want and its still just a shrine.

Third problem as I stated, player friendly only. No risk, no reward. The game is free, but the gameplay is not.

So I broke the shrines down to several types. I could have made more, but these should be enough to make the argument.

1. Curse Shrine - Get a blessing and for the rest of the Instance, unless you leave it for any reason, you are protected for one specific curse like Enfeeble. Do not receive the blessing and get cursed with Enfeeble until you leave the Instance. Plus when cursed, sorry TP scrolls won't work. You have to walk out. (Leaving the game to cheat this makes you a cheater and I hate you for it. Nothing personal.)

2.Health Shrine - The blessing doubles your HP. (I like the lack of a timer, so all my shrines are until you leave the Instance.) The curse, take X amount of Chaos damage per second.

3. Mana shrine - regen mana at plus X amount. Cursed, lose mana at X amount per second.

4. Gem Shrine - gain plus 1 to all gems. Cursed, minus 1 to all gems.

5. Experience Shrine - NO EXPERIENCE SHRINES!

And here's where it gets more fun. The shrines will bless or curse an entire party. One person leaves to go to town, everyone loses it. The cursed, everyone has to leave the Instance on foot. Now do you really want to gamble on using the shrine?
