Captain Kirk is Amazing!

I've never watched Star Trek when it was on TV, as I wasn't born yet. But you can watch all the shows on well star trek . com and I've always been a huge fan of Captain Picard as I was old enough to watch that show. And Captain Picard is still super awesome. But I had no idea, until I watched an episode of Star Trek called The Corbomite Maneuver just how insanely cool James T Kirk really is!

I mean at times I'd randomly see a Star Trek movie with Kirk in them, but movie Kirk is not as baller as original TV series Kirk. The writing on that show was SO incredible. Yes they are soaring through space but you can always tell that humanity itself is the true subject matter of the show.

And don't even get me started on Mr. Spock. (spoiler) There is this cool point in the episode where noone on the ship knows how they are going to survive the next ten minutes because of an alien threat. Mr. Spock says, "Hm, it's a shame we didn't get to meet the alien in person, he sort of reminds me of my father" Then Scottie says, "My condolences to your mother" And Spock says, "Oh, not at all. My mother considered herself a VERY fortunate, EARTH woman" All this while a countdown is telling them they have less than 5 minutes left to live. It was just so badass. And so many other badass moments in the show.

I suggest, if you have never watched the original star trek series. Go to startrek.com and watch Corbomite Maneauver. It is just so epic.

I've yet to crack my full set of ST:The Original Series on blu; maybe after this current rewatch of Quantum Leap. My mother grew up on TOS and swears by it, but I'm far more avid about TNG, even though it has some godawful episodes and characters.

If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
Remember when I won a screenshot contest and made everyone butt-hurt? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Not only amazing, but also climbing a mountain.

I also plan on using that episode as a future reference for chess vs poker debates.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

TOS sometimes needs to be viewed while remembering that it was made 1966-1969, some of the episodes are very heavily influenced by that.

And if you made if through "Shades of Grey" from TNG, you can watch anything (even "Spock's Brain" and "The Way To Eden") from TOS.

My favorite bit of trivia from Star Trek was the pipes had GNDN stenciled on them. Stood for Goes nowhere, Does nothing.
Huh, I didn't notice Shades of Grey as THAT bad but in hindsight it's utterly forgettable.

I'm very good at accepting the context and era from which shows come -- I'm able to watch old Doctor Who, the original Prisoner, and did I mention Quantum Leap, quite possibly the greatest 80s montage of the 60s and 70s, ever?

YEAH, the old series....I also loved them, it was not only a movieseries, it was something the old USA have been standing for. There was truly american people who lived for these ideals... ok, not everything was always perfect, but you could see how much many people - even politicians - tried to make humanity real. It was such a great time, full of hope....

Captain Kirk was a kind of pinnacled picture of this attitude. ( hope this is the right vocabular)

Also recommending the very old series of "Bonanza" .......( of course the oldest episodes are the best :)))
Bonanza might be pushing it for me. That show exists in the same strange 5am space as Thunderbirds.

There's a neat graph of TV show episodes by IMDB rankings here. Well, that one happens to be for ST:TNG.

I'll let you guess which episode the outlier is. ;p
