leveling a friend?

Hi, a friend of mine joined me to play. I was lvl 40 at that time, he was level 1. i just went along with him through the first areas , but he got almost no XP for anything. As soon as he was alone, or i switched to a level 1 char too, all was fine.
Is it working as intended? If so how does it work. A general search on this topic brought me no results yet.

Just like D2 there is no power leveling, you can rush waypoints with your friend however you can not steam roll as a level 40 thus power leveling your level 1 friend.

the xp is shared 100% there's no decrease.

but you are recieving almost 80% of the xp.

maybe even more.

if you were 10 levels difference then he'd get a fair amount, but you're way overleveled for him.

it's probably no fun for him anyway just play a new character with him.
It is working as intended. You are not meant to power level low level characters, after you get over their level by(i think) 5 levels, you start incurring exp penalties, until you get so far over level the exp is non-existant for the low level.

Doing as you did and starting a new character would be the best way to level together.

That is not entirely true at a certain point you hit the drop off and receive no exp if you out level a zone, so with your logic all that exp should still go to his friend which it dose not.

Well ok, just wanted to make sure it is working as intended. I like it this way anyway - i just want to clear smth up - in D2 you could power level...a lvl 80-90 could take you to lvl 50-60 in under 1h - which i honestly don't like.

Also, is there a table with actual numbers somewhere where i can see how much Xp another party member gets depending on the others level?
