Controller support, and how to implement it properly!
I love Path of Exile, but my hand keeps getting cramps because my palm is touching the table and it really annoys me, i want to suggest to implement controller support, but its a iffy once, since the game is played mostly with a mouse and relies and clicking, i know how to properly add controller support specific to PoE, and i will explain it here.
Lets start simple, Button mapping! Skills!
Spoiler
Left Click skill: L1/LB Middle Click Skill: L2/LT Right Click Skill: R1/RB Q Skill: R2/RT W Skill: X/A E Skill: Square/X R Skill: Circle/B T Skill: Triangle/Y With many skill binds in the game, i find this to be appropiate We'll go over flasks in a second, first, MENU!
Spoiler
Start: World Panel Select: Map Home: Attribute Tree Right stick click: Inventory Panel Left stick click: Challenges Panel/(if needed 5th Flask) Seems basic right? But how are we going to traverse menu's? Let me Explain: ---- We scoll through the challanges with the left stick. ---- For the Map we basicly enlarge or shrink it by clicking the stick, no sticks will be used to scroll the map, as that can leave players too vurnerable! ---- While in combat, you cannot open the Inventory, World panel nor the Attribute tree! ---- The inventory is controlled in a grid like fashion.(Anything controlled in a grid line fashion uses the ARROW BUTTONS!) We select items by pressing X/A, and we split stacks with Circle/B! want to place a gem in a slot? press Square/B while hovering over the piece of gear, then select a slot and press X/A to accept, or Circle/B to go back!(Hold a Gem in-order to do so.) To access items on the floor, you press the Left arrow button when you're at the edge of your inventory!, you can scroll through the items that are visable on the playing field, gear out of range? press X/A to walk towards it and pick it up! ---- We use the world map in a grid like fashion, but when we press up, we traverse the map with a magnetic orb/arrow, when it is close to a waypoint, it magnitizes towards it and select it, press X/A to travel, and just push the stick to another direction to deselect it. Press down to return the quest overview/Grid ---- Just like the map, we traverse the Attribute Tree with a arrow/orb that is magnetic to icons, and we can just push the stick to travel to a different skill, use L1/LB to refund/re-allocate skillpoints, and use X/A to apply them! use the Right stick click to cancel! Now flasks, here comes the not so complex

A flask in bound to a arrow button, we have four Up,Left,Down,Right. But we have 5 flasks? how are we going to fix this? EASY Flasks of the same nature will be bound to one button, so a button map would look like this! Up: Special Flask 1 Left: Health Flask Down: Special Flask 2 Right: Mana flask Do you run 5 specific flasks? why not replace Left Stick Click with the 3rd Special flask? (i never look at the challanges tab.) Lets say you can only run 3 types of different flasks and they are bound to Left,Up and Right? what will we do with the Down arrow? well we could bind that to switch weapons if we have to! (I never use it) We've got the basic button mapping covered, but how about moving, using skills?
Spoiler
Well, moving your character will basicly be bound to moving the left/right stick (if we'll have a "invert Sticks" option) Using spells is a little tricky! ---- Aim with the Right stick, or left stick if you have inverted controls! ---- Basic attacks will be cast from where we stand! but we still have to aim! ---- Ranged attacks the same, spells that are ranged such as flaming arrow will be cast when you press the button! ---- AOE Ranged attacks, imagine a circle indicating the max range, imagine a circle on the edge of the circle indicating the Area of Effect! Thats where we cast it, no walking towards the edge to cast the spell! this will eliminate small hick ups that can cause the player to die! ---- Minions will be summoned close to yourself! (If i forget any/dont know any please type/sugguest ideas!) Talking to NPC's? walk towards them and press Start, when you're prompt to use a menu, we use basic scrolling with the stick! Trading? same mechanic as your inventory! Thats basicly my idea of adding controller support! i would love if you would implement it, no pesky hand cramps and we can casualy game on the couch (if you have a pc in the living room hooked up to your TV and a Xbox/ps3 controller!)
