How many sockets can a staff have?

I have the Searing Touch and no matter how many times I use the jeweler orb it goes from 1-3 sockets... can this staff actually have 6 sockets? Please someone let me know.

It can have 6 and expect to spend hundreds of orbs getting it unless your really really lucky, to link the sockets you can be anything from 50 to 1500 or more orbs of fusing

Yes staffs can have 6 sockets but your problem probably is the ITEMLEVEL of your unique.
It depends WHERE the staff dropped in order to be able to roll 6 sockets. You can use /itemlevel I dont know the exacty number but it needs ilvl50+ to roll 6 sockets. |

depends on itemlevel, but 2h weapons can have 6 slots

The thank you for the "itemlevel" command. The item level of my staff is level 20. How can I find out what the maximum sockets can be? Further more when you say you have to use tons of Jeweler orbs to get 6 sockets is that because rolling 6 sockets is extremely rare? I thought it was just a 1-6 chance of getting it?

" It can have, as other said IF it dropped in a high enough area (lowest seen for 6s is lvl 50 area). So as long as searing touch is dropped in a 50+ level zone, it'll be able to get 6 sockets?
