does Minion Damage bonus add to Minion Instability's damage?

Hi all,

As per title, besides minion life, does added minion damage add to MI's damage? Since the summon did do the damage.

Thanks fellow Witches!

No it does not.
Thanks for the quick reply.. will aim for the minion life nodes then.

Yep, I'm currently level 48 and I'm gradually speccing out all the minion damage nodes. Those points are wholly unnecessary.
According to posts by Mark_GGG in this thread Minion Damage Gems will affect MI damage. It seems obvious the passives would work in the same way.

Are ya all sure Minion Damage passives don't affect it?
Brutus. Do you even sync?

When your minions get to a high level those multipliers scale so well. Your skeles and zombies and not to mention the overpowered spectre you will be getting all benefit from minion damage nodes.

"The explosions is not melee damage and is not affected by melee damage modifiers.
It is affected by your minion damage, and any bonuses to fire, elemental, or area damage your minions have."

Next page of the that thread.

"No. For one, spell damage has no effect because it's not a spell.
For two, you need your minions you have stats to increase the damage, not you. You can stack fire damage increases until you're blue in the face and you'll deal lots of fire damage, but you minions won't.

If you can stack fire damage bonuses on your minions, that will increase the damage they deal when they explode."

Okay that makes sense, but what are our options for this? Would an aura be the only way to achieve this?
Support gems and stats on shields with Necromanctic Aegis.

Would doing something like equipping a support fire penetration/dmg gem on your minions increase their fire damage?
Yes.

Thanks, and while I understand the way the mechanic works it is rather confusing. Honestly, just to make things easier to understand, minions should work with our stats, not just theirs.
This would a) make much less sense, and be less intuitive to many people, and b) require a ground-up rewrite of how stats work in the game to be remotely feasible. You have stats. Minions, which are clearly separate things, have stats. Arbitrarily mixing the two is would be confusing and could not currently work in any sensible way.

If I want to add to the MI damage, I'd socket Added Fire Damage, Fire Penetration, Increased Minion Life, and Increased Area of Effect support gems?

That makes more sense now.
Added fire damage adds a % of physical damage as fire. The explosion has no physical damage, so that's probably not what you want.
Minion Damage support will increase it.
So first, i don't understand MI is a elemental damage (Fire). therefore it should gain a bonus if a all Fire witch is using it VS other classes in most cases. there are after all limited ways to pump this skill. so since it deals its damage as fire when they explode i feel that should be increased via fire elemental passives damage bonuses.....is this correct?

if i increase burning damage, would MI have a chance to make them burn, since it deals fire damage? and would i be able to use necromantic aegis (passive skill)- and add chance to burn? what other skills could i use with this? to increase MI damage besides minion life?
would minion damage gems work? i am just confused and since i am a fire witch, i want to know for sure how to maximize the MI damage out put.

last,i saw on the thread some one say increased radius damage/area worked for MI. is this true?

can you increase its area of effect and damage that way?

wow u dug up a pretty old topic xD

anyways,

MI deals fire however it can only be increased on the node tree in three ways. Minion damage and minion health and EE

The only other ways to affect MI is through connecting your minions with support gems such as fire pen, increase aoe, chance to ignite, blah blah

Other ways to increase damage is by using curses and elemental Equilibrium and shock stack

A good way to take advantage of MI explosion since the radius is so small is to do
zombie, chance to ignite, elemental proliferation. The explosion will now expand to a Elepro circle of effect that deals 4/3 of the initial explosion in ignite damage (further increased with other multipliers)
