How do I properly use vaal orbs.

Most of the players figured out that it is a stupid idea to use vaal orbs on something valuable and that it is safer to use them on gems instead, but there hasn't been so far any "how to" for using them in a efficient way. Please submit you knowledge about their working and usage.

If you're going to use them on gems, wait until they are level 20 to try to get the +1 level mod to make them 21. They can also get 1 to 3 quality added so if they are 20 quality they can get to be 23.

On jewelry, don't use them if you like the implicit mod. If you need the 30% Lightning resist implicit on a topaz ring, don't use a Vaal on it. The implicit mod is what the Vaal changes on jewelry if it changes anything and doesn't reduce the rarity.

Use at your own risk on socketed items. Once you use one, you're stuck with the colors you have.

Vaal Orbs really shouldn't be used unless you are rich, and have no other avenues to upgrade your Char/Gear, or if you like to gamble.

Uses:

- On a 20/20 Gem hoping to get 21/20 or 20/23, depending on the Gem. A failure would make it drop to Level 19, thus making it useless (trade-wise) until you leveled it back up to 20. And even then, it can never be Vaal'd again.

- Trying to get a specific Corrupted Implicit on a Unique Item that you really need/want, and there are no other upgrades to get, because it won't be cheap. And Uniques that require specific Links/Colors rolled BEFORE you Vaal them, can get quite demanding Currency-wise before you are successful. These types of "Vaal Projects", shouldn't be begun lightly.

- Trying to turn a Tabula Rasa into a +1 Level of Gems Tabula Rasa, risking losing it outright to a reroll.

- Using a Vaal on a useless Chest, hoping to roll the 1/144 chance to 6-Link it.

- When you are running End-game Maps and your build is strong enough to handle the uncertainty of the extra Mod Vaaling it could give, or in the hopes of rolling +1 to the Map Level.

Somebody alreay tried to Vaal a Map :D ?

I suggest using them on white/blue/rare armors you wouldn't otherwise use with an ilvl of more then 50, you have a 1/144 chance to get a rare 6link in return which IMO is far better then your chances of actually linking your own 6link manually.
