**UNIQUE ARMOUR SLOT LIMITS**
I've tried to find the information on the number of slots on unique armour with no luck. On the path of exile wiki there is a section covering max slots of armour based on level, howver im certain I've seen unique items with more slots than the level limit. For instance, is a lightbane raiment ornate ringmail unique item able to have 5 slots or 6? I would guess 5 slots because it's level 47. Am I wrong?

" What do you mean by "slots"? Do you mean sockets, that allow you to socket gems into an item? |

Required level and item level are not the same thing. Item level is determined by the monster that drops it, or simply the area level where it spawned. A Silverbrach from a level 28 zone has an item level of 28, and as such can roll up to four sockets. A Silverbranch from Hillock is of item level 3 (area level 1, +2 from being a Unique monster), and as such can only roll two sockets tops.

" Correct. The maximum sockets. Normal armour has a lvl 50 requirement for 6 slots, but I'm certain I've seen lower level uniques like Laquered Garb and a few others that had 5 and 6 slots. .. I also enjoy the game so much I'm not sure I wasn't imagining that. Before I go crazy and ruin good pieces of gear, I need to validate the maximum slots certain pieces of unique armor can have. |

its not the required level that determines how many sockets it can have.
It is the ilvl(itemlevel) Applies to all items white, magic, rare and unique with a couple of exceptions;the 3 socket weapon you start with and Tabula Rasa. Might be others but I can't be bothered looking into it. Last edited by Mammatus#4838 on Mar 30, 2014, 3:45:27 AM

as others before have stated you need to look at the itemlevel
of an item. (pick it up with your mouse and type /itemlevel to see it) you need the following itemlevels: itemlevel < 15 = max 2 sockeets 15 = max 3 sockets 28 = max 4 sockets 35 = max 5 sockets 50 = max 6 sockets keep in mind that you can only roll 4-6 sockets on 2 handed weapons and armours. helm, boots and gloves can have max 4 sockets and 1h weapons and shields max 3 sockets. |

" Op, these examples are probably what's confusing you. Every character gets a weapon with three (unlinked) slots when they start a Act 1 Normal, even though such a weapon can't normally show up until iLevel 15 (so, normally, around the start of Act 2). As for the Tabula Rasa, it's a Unique, and it's special effect is specifically that it has 6 linked white slots no matter when it drops. These examples are exceptions to the rule that many people here have already stated. The other thing that may be confusing you is that sometimes people post an item with less than max slots wondering why the game won't allow them to use a Jeweler's Orb on it, and they get told that it's iLevel is too low to get more slots, even though that equipment slot can normally have more (so they're wondering why their feet-slot item won't get more than 2 or 3 slots on it). The key here is to understand that Required Level and Item Level are two different things. The Required Level states how high a level you have to be to equip the item, but it actually has no bearing on how many slots the item can have. The Item Level, on the other hand, is a hidden stat (apparently the deva think that having too much info on the item card will hurt our brains, so they chose to keep the Item Level off of the Item card); in order to see the Item Level of an item, you have to pick it up so it's on your cursor, then hit Enter and type "/item level" into the chat box. The long and short of all this is that the Lightbane Raiment can have 5 slots if it was dropped by a normal monster in a level 35+ zone, a Rare monster in a Level 34+ zone, or a Unique monster in a level 33+ zone. It can have 6 slots if it was dropped by a normal monster in a level 50+ zone, a Rare monster in a level 49+ zone, or a Unique monster in a level 48+ zone. On the other hand, if it was dropped by Hillock, it will only ever only be able to have 2 slots. |

" one small correction its "/itemlevel" without the space between item and level. " you are slightly wrong. normal (white) monsters drop items with the itemlevel of the zone, magic (blue) monsters drop items 1 level higher as the zone level and rare/unique (yellow/orange) monsters 2 levels higher than the zone.
