Unexpected switching out of full-screen mode

I'm running POE on win 8.1, and once or twice a night, something causes windows to switch to the desktop, hiding my full-screen game session. It's just as if I typed Alt-Tab, except that I'm not doing so. (It even happens when I'm not touching the keyboard.) It happens just often enough to be distracting (it hasn't killed me yet, thankfully).

Does anyone know what may be doing this? Perhaps a windows setting, or something? At present, it's just a nuisance. Other than the surprise, there's no other effect, and I just switch back. I'd like to fix it because it jars me out of the game, and there's a possible risk of dying while switching back.

I've looked in the event viewer, and don't see any messages around the time(s) it occurs. Temperatures are fine, frame rates are consistent and good. I've tried doing web searches, but can't seem to find a search term that doesn't call up eleventybillion pages all telling me how to switch between window sessions with alt-tab.

Any clues would be great. If you'd like me to do anything particular to help diagnosis, let me know. I can't tell if it's some odd setting in windows assistive technologies, a wierd error because I changed the mapping of a couple keys (e.g., TAB for weapon switch, and it can switch even when I'm in town, not touching the keyboard.) Or some device driver deciding that I need to be in the desktop. I just can't find anything.

Update: I originally thought maybe the web browser had some javascript running that somehow forced the switch, but since then I've tried running with no other application running, and it still occurs.

I'm seeing the exact same thing. Just searched to see if there were any tips on this and ended up here.

I'm running a fresh win 8.1 install, and only run TS in addition to POE. Are you running TS as well? Might be worth a try for us to close TS for a while to see if the behavior stops.

I don't know what TS is, but I see it most often when I have IE running. Typically, I'm running POE and sometimes IE for price checks, but nothing else is typically running.

I'm sure it's happened without any open browser in my case. But I normally run Teamspeak while playing. Tried some driver updates, but no luck so far sadly.

I had this problem too from the pop up that said "This copy of Windows is not...". When I was playing, the popup would not show but I would go to desktop like you said. I have since goten rid of the popup and it hasn't happened anymore. It could possibly be due to any popup in the notification area but I'm not sure.
