What is the animation on an enemy to know they are shocked?
|
I recently put the Added Lightening Damage gem linked to my Freezing Pulse skill so I could get some bonus damage when an enemy becomes shocked. However I never really notice any enemies becoming shocked. I see them become chilled from my Freezing Pulse because they turn like a white icy look but I don't notice any shocked animation. I know my lightening damage is happening because I see the animation for lightening damage happening when my Freezing Pulse strikes but there doesn't seem to ever be a lingering animation that would show that the enemy is shocked.
Is the chance to shock just very very low and I am missing it? Does the shocked animation not show up over the chilled animation? Is the shocked animation just hard to see when the enemy is also chilled? |

The blue lightning sparkles stay on shocked mobs. It's not the most obvious effect and I for one would like something that conveys how many stacks they have on them. If it's already in there, I didn't see it.

Just a guess, but I would imagine that since the lightning animation is the same white-ish color as frost/freezing - unless you got your nose right up to the screen you wouldn't see it.
Also - for most of those animation effects dealing with lightning - they are very hard to see anyway except in caves and such - for me anyway. In other games - you get a cookie whether you win or lose. PoE not only takes your cookie and eats it in front of you, it slaps you upside the head a few times for bringing a cookie in the first place.

So what is the animation that basically turns the enemy a weird blue color? It's like blue wavy lines? I usually see it when an enemy dies...Their body has blue wavy lines going on them.

" That's the one! |

" hmm...So I feel like I SHOULD be able to see something like that while the chilled animation is on an enemy. the Added Lightening Damage support gem on Freezing Pulse WILL allow my freezing pulse to shock enemies right? If it does, is the chance to shock just really really low and that is why I feel like I never see it? |

" You have to crit for it to apply a shock stack, same with freezing an enemy with ice damage or burning an enemy with fire damage (unless otherwise stated by the skill gem) Also, animations with multiple different effects on one target tend to overlap and give bad graphical representations currently :( Last edited by Elynole#2906 on Jan 29, 2013, 2:32:31 PM

" Shock and freeze is applied whenever you crit, so if you don't have any other passives/supports/item mods that add freeze/shock chance, your chance to shock/freeze is exactly equal to your crit chance. However, shock/freeze duration is determined by amount of damage you do with that element compared to the mob's maxiumum health, and if the duration works out to be less than 0.300 seconds, the shock will not be applied. It could be that you are not doing enough lighting damage to get over the threshold, so shock does not get applied. Alteration Orb Union Local #7

when you crit, they both happen at the same time, assuming you didnt take any shock/frozen on lightning/cold dmg passives. i think its just hard to see the shocked over the frozen
