Average DPS at level 30

I'm currently on my 2nd character, a level 29 Duelist. His DPS (with normal attack) is around 120 using 2-handed sword (200+ with double strike). I don't think he's weak per say as I can tank & fight most bosses and mobs without problem.

However I have a feeling that some players, especially those who are playing other classes, have much higher DPS based on what I read on other class specific forums. If you don't mind, could everyone please comment on two things:
- Is my DPS okay for my level?
- What was your DPS at this level on the 1st character of yours AFTER you have gotten used to the game (meaning not the very first one but the one with which you started feeling comfortable with PoE's mechanic)?

Well I'm a one handed maurader going strictly for regen/leech/health/armor but my dps is currently 80. My armour is 1200ish

once you get gear, ur dps will go up.

survivability is more important and seems like youre passing it

I agree with Dudebag. Surviving is better than trying to kill stuff before it kills you lol. I mean on my Duelist I have about 550 DPS at level 32, but he is trying to get lots of survival nodes.

I think the point tc is trying to make is this... he only has 80 dps to your 550 dps and he is three levels under you. something is obviously wrong.. he should have more dps than 80 at level 29 no?

Gear is extremely important as is the right build.

I am level 24 currently and sitting at 199.8 DPS and 2.06 APS with just my auto attack. This is a dual wield Duelist build.

This is the DPS I'm playing with right now, although I'm not a Duelist. I also need to upgrade alot of my Armors..as the only thing that's really current is my Weapon and my Belt...

200+ Dps isn't too bad especially if all you need to do is upgrade Gear for Melee characters like Duelist, your weapon should take higher priority than anything else unless you're gearing for more survivability. So make sure your weapon is upgraded as much as possible.

Duelist are underperforming according to G3 but we are by no means Underpowered. Keep your gear up to date and you'll be fine. And like I said as far as being a DPS character is concerned, your weapons should take priority over other gear if you are Melee. At least IMO it's always worked well for me.

Forget double strike and use heavy strike instead.

And get a weapon with a high IPD %.

My double strike is currently having more DPS than my heavy strike (maybe due to the added fire damage support gem). But in any case I do feel more comfortable using double strike as HS seems slower and miss more often.

Passive wise I think I only have +34% or so of physical damage, 110+ Strength and 70+ Dexterity. Could be due to my lack of Strength :S

I focus a lot on getting Life%, Armor Rating% and Evasion Rating% (Leather and Steel) and also Resistance. At near future I will get the Iron Reflex note.

At far future I want to get more elemental damage (mainly fire) than physical damage but I'm still not sure where to get the base fire damage from :S other than the added fire damage gem. Maybe from Infernal Blow skill gem, though I haven't gotten one yet.
