List of some Invasion Bosses

Hi there! After rerolling and deleting multiple characters to the afterlife, I started compiling a list of unique Invasion bosses to avoid surprises. I met many more, but those only once, so I was busy surviving or dying instead of taking pictures. But here go the ones Im already pretty familar with. Feel free to add any new uniques or strategies/abilities to the already mentioned ones.

All uniques are dangerous and should be handled with care. However, some are more than others. For better underlining their dangers, I will try to rate them from Class I (relatively straight to deal with) to Class IV (run for your life).

All Seeing Eye (Soulless Watcher) - Class II

Loves: Narrow pathways
Hates: Players who move around

This fella uses a long charging blinding attack, and some lightning, possibly a version of Arc. Most attacks can be avoided, but he catches up quick and often repositions himself, with a bit of luck triggering the next mob near your corner and making your life a bit harder.

Atziris Pride (Piety Miscreation) - Class II

Loves: Atziri
Hates: Everything not Atziri

Fast Lightning Warp, Unrighteous Fire over time, Arctic Armor, strong melee attack. Difficult to fight at range, distract him with totem or hit-and-run-melee after he lightning warps to you so you dont get caught up in the fire AOE too much, which becomes quite intense with rising levels.

Balus Stoneskull (Armored Bandit) - Class I

Loves: A straight fight
Hates: Hit-and-runners

Flicker Strikes to you, strong Melee Attack, but moves and attacks quite slowly. Distracting him with a totem or minions is easiest, or hit-and-run ranged/melee after he flickers.

Bladeback Guardian (Porcupine Goliath) - Class III

Dont get too close. Dont Get Too Close! DONT G...too late

Loves: Killing melee characters
Hates: Fire/Cold resistance

You can spot this one easily if single blue ice spears come flying at you out of nowhere. He keeps spamming those if you keep your distance, they are easy to dodge and hit/run will beat this guy eventually. However, get too close for comfort and he will answer with a 5-direction-discharge or roast you with a rapid Fireball-Nova in all directions, an attack which range is greater than the animation suggests, so be careful!

Bladetooth (Dune Hellion) - Class II

Loves: Spawning in the Coast directly at the town entrance.
Hates: Showering

This reeking thing looks as if it had lived in a dumpster all its life. The doggie will come at you with a group of flaming Hellions. It has only Fire and Chaos melee attacks, gets some kind of orange endurance charges over time, curses Flammability when hit. It dies with a huge explosion, but this one doesnt do that much damage. Kill minions first, distract him with totems or minions, hit and run ranged or take him on melee with some life leech or chaos resist. Isnt that difficult to deal with until Cruel/Merciless where his chaos attack is surely more scary.

Blood Stasis (Fire) & Blood Morpher (Ice) - Blood Ape Twins Class III

What a happy couple

Love: Being together
Hate: Being apart

The twins from hell. Blood Stasis throws single Fireballs and curses flammability, Blood Morpher casts single Ice spear or triple Ice skull that freezes the ground, and, well, you. While your feet are frozen by one, the other will roast your face. Mjam. They are very powerful together with lots of damage potential, but lure them apart and you can kill them easily one by one.

Cintiq the Inescapable (Black Spider) - Class IV

Loves: Giving global chat nice death messages
Hates: Chaos resistance

This black nightmare will hunt you down and chaos you to death. FIghting it solo is hard, fighting it in a mob even harder. This cute animal flicker strikes to you whereever you flee. Has a strong Chaos melee strike and an even stronger Ethereal Knives like Chaos AOE ranged attack that reaches almost to the edge of the screen. Takes out your minions in a flash. If you HAVE to fight that thing, make use of the flicker to lure it into a big room where you are alone with it. Cast a totem behind it so its attention is divided. You can get 1 or 2 attacks in before the totem behind the spider dies. So attack/totem/attack/totem/... until it is dead. Well, thats how I like to do it at least.

Corpsestitch (Necromancer) - Class I

Mighty Manitu, please give me a buff!

Loves: Raising dead
Hates: Being dead

Doesnt attack himself, curses Vulnerability, constantly reanimates corpses, tries to lightning warp away from you behind his meat(bone-)shield of his minions if you get too close to him. So first take him out, then the others. He wont flee much if facing ranged attacks.

Genesis Paradisae (Froggie) - Class III

Fire and Ice cant get along? Not if this guy cant help it

Loves: Face-jumping heroes from offscreen to half health
Hates: Standing still

A nasty monster to deal with. First he will surprise-leap you together with a bunch of his minions, and when you thought you regained your composure he will freeze you tight and leap you into the ground with a fairly scary and fast burning slam. Ensure to have him distracted, or to hit-run-dodge his leap slams and slowy wear him down. Fighting in open space is recommended, his triple frostskull is a nasty attack that can lead to a quick kill move.

Glassmaul (Giant grey skeleton) - Class I

Loves: Crossdressing in a Skeleton King outfit pretending to be powerful
Hates: Being a total weaksauce

This guy. Well, I guess you can be happy if you see him, cause this level will be easy. He summons skeletons who disappear after a few seconds, curses the almighty Warlords Mark on you, attacks melee with a fairly decent but highly avoidable lightning strike. Kite so you dont get surrounded by skelis, hit and run. If necessary, lure him into open area. If he gets you into close quarters, this guy can actually be dangerous.

Granitecrush (Rumbling Mass) - Class I

Just walkin around, dischargin ma mojo

Loves: Bowling
Hates: Gneiss

He is pretty fast and pretty tough. While already having a formidable melee attack, he often discharges a powerful AOE attack of a random element reaching a few feet away from him. Kite him in an open space preferably. If you get too far away, he will roll toward you. Avoid being hit by the discharges, otherwise he isnt very tough.

Grath (Giant Skeleton) - Class II

"I am invincible!! Oh, my mistake, only they are."

Loves: Saving his friends from death
Hates: None of his friends save him from death

This guy is a keeper. He has invulnerability aura and gives his minions improved attacks, summons a Spell Totem which spams Skeletons (will be immortal if inside the aura), only has a fairly decent melee strike as his own attack but you will be less worried about him most of the time and more worried about the giant unkillable mob around him. However, the aura only covers a few feet from him, so you can easily pick off the stragglers who step out of its area for a second. On his own Grath is no real problem to deal with, but in close quarters the skeletons can block your way and bring you up against the wall without a way out, so fight him on open ground if possible.

Guardian of the Mound (Goatman) - Class I

He wont guard any mound anytime soon

Loves: Loves mah totems. Look at mi, mi sooo powerful
Hates: Characters who are actually powerful

This guy acts more as a support character from the sidelines than a real general. He casts a totem which uses Vaal Fireball, the line of fire can be easily predicted. He sometimes cold snaps you but otherwise he is pretty passive. He is one of the few uniques who are weak to melee attacks, yes for real. Just stay away from his totem! If he spawns the totem on top of you, the repeated Fireball hits can pack a real punch on higher levels. Otherwise easy to deal with.

Harbinger of Elements (Skeleton) - Class I

"Aaaand...FIRE! You didnt expect that one, huh?"

Loves: Making the world a more colourful place
Hates: Elemental resistance

Yes, this guy is a blessing from the skies for every hero passing by. He attacks with a single random elemental projectile very slowly. Flees like a coward if you get close. Very low HP and is probably the weakest Unique out there. Shed your weapons and armor, just fight him with your fists and he will still be laughable. Has a mob around him of mixed elemental skeletons which might just be scarier than he is.

Jikeji (Totem) - Class II

"Life would be pretty badass if I wasnt a stone"

Loves: Having a soul, feelings and dreams
Hates: Not being able to move, see, smell, hear or do anything remotely useful

Jikeji is like the big brother of Kuduku. More life, his sparks and shock nova are stronger, and he summons quite a number of lightning warp totems to assist him, or annoy you. However, quite straight forward to deal with. You can take him out melee where the nova wont hit, or outside the nova radius with a ranged attack. I imagine the shock stacks will be a problem later on. If you always wanted to see the sight of an angry horde of lightning totems chasing after you, I suggest running away a bit for fun :)

Judgement Apparatus (Vaal Construct) - Class II/III

If you see those anywhere near you, think about your next build

Loves: Trolling heroes into thinking the fight would be easy, then one-shot them
Hates: Heroes pretend to fall for his troll, then troll him instead

At first this little cute creature doesnt look like much. He will welcome you with a fairly weak single chaos projectile which travels fast and offscreen, but will eventually cast a really strong lightning ball close/medium range that one-shots average builds on the same level. Best take it out from far away so you can dodge the lightning ball, or distract it with a totem. It has very low health so it dies pretty quickly even if you have to switch to an unskilled ranged attack or spell just for this fight.

Junglemare (Ape chieftain) - Class I

Loves: Summoning lots of ape females to play with
Hates: Heroes who kill them

This chieftain is like a tank with a tiny pistol mounted on it. He has a HUGE Energy Shield, gives allies a big ES too, but is otherwise very slow with only a semi-powerful melee attack. Kill off his minions, kite him and be happy. Possible melee on normal and cruel.

Kall Foxfly (Callow Sniper) - Class I

Behold, the mighty Kall, who teleports in front of the bullseye before HITTING IT!

Loves: Warping to target and shooting its face point-blank
Hates: People who can actually shoot

This guy is strange. He fires split arrows, throws traps from time to time but has no kill move if they actually trap you. very slow and attacks very slowly, and instead of warping away from you he mostly comes to you. Kill his minions first, dodge his traps and range him or just obliterate him melee.

Mammothcage (Skeletal Beast) - Class II

Yo mama is so fat she has two watches one for each time zone she's in

Loves: Having Senju DNA
Hates: Being extinct

You can hear this guy offscreen, and spot him easily because of his colossal dinosaur-bone minions stomping in your direction with a glowing invulnerability aura that you love so much. Mammothcage is not only even bigger, but has massive life and high regen. Slow mover but his melee attacks are quite strong, especially in combo with the mob. No ranged attack, at least. Is that good news? Due to his high regen, you best kill this one in a single go. This can be quite tricky to do as his minions are unkillable and you cannot lure him away from them due to his slow speed. Best distract the mob with totems or your own minions while you quietly kill the unique. If you have a Vaal Gem ready, use it after his death and the mob will die in a glorious flash of fireworks. A general AOE like Firestorm or Rain of Arrows helps too.

Mother of the Swarm (Carrion Queen) - Class II

The Mother of the Year award goes toooo...

Loves: Eating and blowing up babies
Hates: Sarah Kerrigan

This soul-eating carrion queen will be quite a stepping stone. She produces suicide minions, and if they dont manage to kill you first she detonates their corpses once you are near them to ensure maximum value of her offspring. Lots of life, take on with melee (reave, ...) in earlier levels or ranged (Firestorm, Rain of Arrows, ...) AOE to keep killing her minions and wear her down. She is pretty helpless at range.

Nighteater (Cannibal) - Class II

Look at ma firepower

Loves: Eating humans at night
Hates: Humans who dont want to be eaten

This mannerful lady casts firestorm on range, if you go melee she tries to slowly punch you to death. Throws traps from time to time and when you are stuck rains fire on you. Kill minions first, kite her traps. Easy with good fire resi. Very cool death animation :)

Pewterfang (White Spider) - Class II-III

"Tasty humans"

Loves: Being a badass
Hates: Too many targets at once

Every black nightmare has a bright dream following it. Fortunately, the little sister of Cintiq is on the light side of the force and not quite as tough as her black counterpart. Unfortunately, she also flicker strikes, viper strikes (first stack is random and can take some time, but the others will be applied quickly), blinds you after a successful flicker, deals Chaos Damage, but has no ranged chaos AOE attack like Cintiq. Best divert attention with totem or minions, hit and run range/melee to avoid too many viper stacks or chaos damage. The chaos damage I imagine will hit pretty hard in Merciless.

Shivershell (Giant Crab) - Class I

"If I cant have them, NO ONE SHALL!"

Loves: Being safe in its shell
Hates: Dying. Seriously, it gets MAD.

Shivershell was responsible for a LOT of first deaths in this new league. However, the trick only works once. The unique boss moves very slowly and attacks melee, summons Ice Walls that actually help you keep your distance and also many small crabs. However, once its second form dies, everyt corpse near it will be detonated in a chain reaction, triggering an often huge vlast. Just kite him or take him melee, shortly before second form dies lure him away from corpses, or step away yourself. Problem solved.

Spinesnap (Leap Frog) - Class II-III

His leap packs quite the punch

Loves: Breaking spines
Hates: Not having one

This thing gets harder with level progression. He deals chaos damage directly and over time, curses you with annoying temporal chains, and then performs rapid-speed leap slams to beat you into submission. Hit and run to avoid the leaps or mislead him with a totem. In earlier levels its more than possible to take him melee.

Tailsinger (Serpent) - Class II

Tail-kick to tha face

Loves: Zapping around showing off its speed without actually doing anything
Hates: People who force it to fight

This snakey moves fast and casts quite a powerful Ice Wall to disrupt your kiting maneuvers. In melee it will attack with its tail, which isnt that dangerous, or a chaos damage attack in form of a greenish ball which will be noticable on higher levels. Has a large energy shield which will often annoyingly recharge after the serpent moves around with almost the speed of light. Keep moving to dodge Ice Wall and Chaos attack, hit and run, distract with totem, or lure him in secluded place, pin down and melee him.

The Duchess (Merveils Chosen) - Class III

"Yes, this is a warning colour. Yes, you can run away now."

Loves: Giving birth to zombies, giving birth to squids, giving birth to...everything!
Hates: Firestorm and Cannot-be-Frozen-mod

This beautiful mutated lady spams a lot of squids, suicide squids and large, sturdy zombies. Her main attack is a mid-range rapid Freezing Pulse with high damage and freeze potential. Use ranged AOE and keep her at edge of screen. Seriously, stay at range! If you get frozen you are as good as dead.

The Revenant (Voidbearer) - Class II

Who doesnt fear a creature shooting laser beams out of its butt?

Loves: Professional dancing
Hates: Unimpressed heroes

This guy deserves to be called unique. He summons searing totems because he saw streamers do it and would do pretty much anything to get your attention, even cycloning around or fire his void blast into thin air completely out of range. In an open space he is pretty easy to fight, as he moves and cyclones quite slowly. But dont let him get you in close quarters, you do not want to be part of that Tango!

As someone who hasn't been playing invasion, that was a really enjoyable read!

Haha yeah, but some of those as I recall are corrupted map bosses and do not spawn regulary in normal levels. I remember Inti quite well, had to flee because the map was suddenly filled with his little minions and everytime I tried to remotely hurt him, bombs would rain down on me from all directions :)

The rain of spikes miscreation killed me last time. There are quite a lot of people who were one-shotted by that one once it had low life, me included. It is possible this thing switches to only-crit attacks at low life? Who knows.

Once I get to face them again and have a little more time and a little less dying, they will make the list as well :)
Great read!
My little tribute to Diablo 1 aka why Diablo 3 is the worst part of the series.

You didn't get past normal according to this rankings.

Some mobs gain GMP skills and other abilities in higher difficulty.

And GMP Arctic breath on close range can easily one shot you.
Yep, best I got was act 2 cruel when we did the marathon a few days back, and this account is still stuck on normal. On cruel some bosses also gain rapid attacks, and you do not have any time studying the creature before you. Its do or die.

I guess a Merciless character could go back to Cruel and study all the bosses there with some kind of safety. But I imagine the merc people are rather racing to Atziri at the moment instead of doing science, so it will prob be some time until we get detailed info about the changed Cruel boss mechanics, or even merciless.
Corpsestitch killed me last night in a party in Ledge Mercyless. He has surely a ranged annex skill, being bow duellist. I just saw my life bar go down, without any clue of what happened. It looks like a degeneration. At first, i thought corruptive blood but i saw no red dots. Or a "vaal life leech" because it happens when he was nearly killed.
