The mechanics of Enduring Cry and the Taunt
So, can somebody explain to me how the taunt on enduring cry actually works? Its REALLY vague the way its worded, it seems.
"Performs a warcry, adding endurance charges proportional to the number of surrounding enemies. Taunts all nearby enemies to attack the caster." I'm concerned because me and some friends made a party that we're planning on going through hardcore with, together. I'm the party's tank. So, its my job to keep the stuff attacking me and stay alive. Because of this, I saw enduring cry and said "Wow! That will work great with my build!" But its not really working out that way. It seems like the taunt doesn't really do anything. I'll cast it and the monsters appear like they're just still attacking the same target they were before. I might be wrong about this because combat moves so quickly, but the point is that I'm not really seeing any results. I'm having trouble keeping aggro on myself, and it seems like this supposed "taunt" is the problem. My theory is that it only aggros enemies, without actually forcing them to attack me. Can anyone clarify the actual mechanics of this taunt? For instance: Are they forced to attack the caster, or the party? How long are they forced to attack? What does "attack" mean? Can they only basic attack, or can they use spells, too? What would happen if there was a decoy totem during this fight? Its very unclear, and I could find no documentation on this question anywhere. Thanks. Last edited by doughnutguy#0524 on Jan 29, 2013, 1:46:24 AM

This is not an MMO and there is no aggro mechanic in the way it exists in MMOs. Enduring Cry is the only skill that makes monsters attack you explicitly, but the duration of that effect is a bit shorter from its cooldown from what I see (the duration itself is not documented). And yes, I can verify from personal experience that it does work, it just isn't nearly as reliable as you are accustomed to from MMOs. As such, you can't really make it your job keeping your friends alive.
And that is the reason why you can't rely on a tank buddy to keep your glass cannon alive. It works a lot of the time, but it doesn't work just enough of the time for it to be a problem. Decoy totems are better, but they die quickly and have no effect until they pulse for the first time. Last edited by Exxar#6008 on Jan 29, 2013, 4:02:38 AM
