Should I fill up all my open sockets with gems, even if I don't intend to use them?
|
Brand new to the game & looking for advice.
While I've learned that gems gain exp so long as they are socketed in any item, even off-hand weapons, I wonder if I should socket gems I won't be using on that character. On the plus side, I'm assuming, a leveled up gem trades for a higher value. On the downside they're gaining in mana cast & level requirement for the person that does use them (or me if I roll a new character). Thoughts? Thanks in advance. |

You should put in side gems that you may want to use with this current character first and then if you have extra level side gems for your other characters.

Put in gems you use later anyways even if you dont have the socket and link setup yet. Or lvl up gems you intend to sell at max lvl.

Always level 2 instance of the same gem you are using especially if its your first or second char and you dont ahve that much currency.
Why ? Because once your gem reach lvlv 20 you can use the recipe (lvl 20 gem + gcp) and convert it to a lvl 1 20% quality gem thus while you will level that new gem you will be able to use the second one you leveled until the 20% quality is enough leveled to be used ! |

absolutely it is, not only when those gems are lvl 20 can you vendor them with 1gcp and make a 20% quality gem but they are worth a decent penny at lvl 20.
i highly recommend making your swap weapon a culling weapon with a 4 atleast link using bear trap(insert random skill). culling strike. improved quanity. improved rarity. but yes you can also use that swap space with a 6 socket random item to level up 6 gems. users of BoR commonly use a tabula rasa to level up a bunch of gems. |

" Secondary weapons are a good place to level gems, something your should always be doing. Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do.

Worth noting that you'll be level 90 by the time your gems reach lvl 20. Chances are you'll end up buying 20/20 gems long before that rather than leveling them yourself.
