Does PoE run on Windows 7 64 bit?

The problem I have is that inside my Notebook is 4GB Ram but only 2,25 GB Ram is available. I use Windows 7 32bit and I'm aware that switching to 64 bit gets rid of that restriction.
(I have played PoE in the past on Windows 7 32 bit & it worked fine)

My Notebook is capable of 64 bit, the thing is, I'm not really sure if PoE runs on 64 bit & also I'm unsure in generall if I should do it.

Is it a good Idea? Will I benefit from 4GB Ram or do most games not use it at all or is 2,25 GB enough? (I'm not really playing the newest games because my notebook is 4 years old).

I saw on the microsoft homepage that they said many virus scanner wont work but I can live with that. Is there any other downsides to 64 bit?

PoE runs fine on 64-bit windows.
Last year I upgraded my computer. Part of the upgrade was from Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Here's what you should know:

  • You cannot upgrade a 32-bit OS to a 64-bit OS. You'll have to buy the full version.
  • Be prepared to format your hard drive and do a clean install. (This can be a good thing if you only install programs you really want. It will give you a chance to "clean out" the junk from your computer).
  • Install the 64-bit drivers for all your devices. (If they are not on your original discs, you may have to search the web for them. Try to get them from the manufacturer's website where possible).
  • Install the 64-bit versions of your software. Most programs support both. If not, you may be able to download the 64-bit software of the same version from the developer's website using your original license code, at no additional cost.
  • 4 GB system RAM with a 64-bit OS will be helpful in running PoE. Although, you still may need to add the -gc 2 switch to your PoE shortcut command line. If you can afford to upgrade your system RAM to 8 GB at the same time you upgrade your OS to 64-bit, that would be even better.

I hope this helps and good luck with your upgrade, whichever way you decide to go.

Edit: I forgot to mention, I use Windows Firewall and AVG Anti-Virus Free. I also use the free version of Spybot Search & Destroy. These all have 64-bit versions (Windows Firewall, obviously) and run fine on my 64-bit Windows 7. ;)

Thats not a problem for me, the notebook has 64 bit install on the recovery partition, I only need to execute that file, restart, press F11 & follow instructions (It also came with 32bit/64bit DVD's).

I have saved everything important onto a external hard drive, so no problem for clean install.

Didn't know that command, I'm writing it down in txt document. Can't really upgrade to 8 GB RAM though because my Windows version supports only 4GB, but thats not a problem, wasn't really going to upgrade this notebook anyways, its too old.

Well, you're a pretty smart puppy then, aren't you. And luckier than me. That was the first thing I checked before upgrading mine, but all my resource and recovery discs were 32-bit.

Sounds like you're good to go then. Have fun in Wraeclast!

Just don't sell yourself short.

When I was in college, one of my professors told me,

"...it's not what you know that matters. It's knowing where to go to find the answers".
