Some questions about Cast on Crit mechanics
|
Hey guys I have some questions about the mechanics of CoC. I've searched the forums and the wiki but the information is very fragmented so I'm hoping you can help me.
First question: How do crits work with Cyclone? I read that when an attack or spell crits all enemies hit by it receive a crit. However Cyclone is a spell that can just keep going when you hold down the mouse button. I've noticed that it's very 'streaky' Either I hit a pack and everything around me dies because it keeps critting and proccing my CoC spell or I don't crit at all and get beat up by some really angry monsters :) What is it about Cyclone that causes this? 2. Can the spell(s) that are linked to CoC also crit? I use EK for instance. When I crit and it procs can the triggered spell also crit? Since normally the spell does have a chance to crit when you cast it manually. 3. As a follow-up to the previous question, do all the modifiers that normally apply to a spell still apply when it's linked to CoC? I've seen that aura's at least do effect them. 4. Does the same go for passives in your tree? Since I'm using EK with a Shadow and I'm generally in melee range because of Cyclone I've been thinking about going for Point Blank in my passive tree. Will that affect my linked EK spell? Last question. Is there any other way to reliably get Power Charge stacks other then a Voll's Protector? Because I really don't have the budget for it but the increased crit chance on Power Charges seems to good not to use. I don't have a 5L or 6L either. Thanks in advance. |

1. Cyclone isn't like a channeling spell. Cyclone is used once per click like all other attacks. The difference is that cyclone will travel to where you "casted it" regardless if this is 1 pixel or 1 screen away. In this single key press it will attack everything in your range at specific time intervals based on your attack speed.
In poe, crits are calculated on key stroke. So p.e. a chain LMP L's will strike 5000000 mobs, but fits all crits or none, calculated on key press. Same thing for cyclone, you click where to move and either all attacks towards there or none will crit. 2. Yes, but I'm unsure if it uses the same crit roll as the attack that process them, I've seen arguments from both sides. 3. Yes 4. Yes your passives affect EK, BUT point blank won't affect EK because ek is a spell and point blank affects only attacks (it even says so in its description) 5. Power charge on crit support gem. If you don't have place for it in your main attack try using a secondary attack to build them up and then something like cwdt-ice spear-gmp-pcoc is usually enough if you are fast to keep them up. |

Thank you for clearing that up. I actually have the PC on Crit gem but didn't think to link it with a CodT. That's still a lot of recources spent just to get power charges. Would you that it's worth it in general? For reference I'm running a Shadow with dual daggers. And I can't believe I missed the part about PB being attack only >.>

" this is one of the reasons people suggest using a CoC build only if you have a 5l ready. you have to remember, that 1 link in a generic blender build is usually 20-40% more damage. 1 link in a CoC build is 100% more damage. You NEED a 5l even then, using pcoc on your main attack will cut down a lot of your dps, while using it on a seperate skill i prefer to build mine p.e. in ST-inc crit chance-pcoc-added lighting THEN i hope that my cwdt-ice spear-pcoc-gmp/ec will be enough to keep those charges up, USUALLY it is, sometimes they fall off though and i need to start rebuilding. An alternative is using voll's 5l, but it's out of my budget for that character (i've only spent 1c on him and dont plan to spent more^^) |

Yea I know but I try to avoid Blender builds and ST build because they're too easy :) I'm one of those idiots that tries to make something work even though a lot of people are telling me it won't hehe. You had some good advice I can build on though, cheers.
