Support gems for Auras? How does it work?
How does this work?
for example if I put a life leech support gem with my hatred aura gem do all of my attacks now leech life as long as my hatred aura is on? |

No, Life Leech will not work with hatred, wrath etc. In fact, theres very few useful supports for auras. Reduced Mana is probably at the top of the list for usefulness though. Further more, Life Leech support gem will only actually work with whatever skill you have combined it with.
If you did not know this, one way you can tell if a Support is actually working with a gem, is by observing the little "letter" that appears on the skills button on your skill bar. But again, theres not alot of useful supports for auras. GGG - Why you no? Last edited by JoannaDark#6252 on Jan 28, 2013, 1:33:00 PM

" Hatred does not deal damage itself but rather adds cold to your attacks. SO the answer is no. |

" Ok, well, they way support gems read makes a lot of us understand that: Having this aura active attached to a leech life gem makes the aura constantly grant you leech life as long as the aura is active. Same with just about any other support gem. Not saying you are wrong, but you are being a dick. Sorry 90% of us players didn't play in the CB (considered you 1337 'gold status') and weren't hand held by such a niche group. This is an easy mistake to make, and isn't described in detail enough for new players. |

Common man... Im a noob and this thematically makes sense without me even having to tap the logic centers of my brain.... Why would lifesteal work on something that isnt directly hurting the target???

" And how would anyone know that? Who's to say the aura isn't doing the damage when you attack rather than it just buffing your stats? Even though it is just buffing your stats why don't support gems change what it's buffing? Who cares if it's not causing damage why does that mean +damage supports can't buff the damage it's buffing? None of this makes sense and it's far from something a new player would realize on their own, especially when you have buffs like Tempest Shield which seem similar but can actually be buffed by damage support gems. The very first thing I did with my first +lightning damage support gem was try to link it to wrath. It seemed obvious to me. |

" How is he coming off as anything other than neutral? He answered the questioned perfectly AND gave the reason why. He's "gold status" because he donated $250+ to the game, and obviously cares about where it's going. Majority of OPs since OB are full of it

Auras provide buffs.
If you could make any buff-creating skill apply support gem effects, then we would need to nerf all such support gems into oblivion. Because everyone would run anger, wrath, hatred, grace, and clarity with added fire damage, added cold damage, life steal etc. and every character in the game would now have 10% base life leech and 200 elemental damage on hit on top of their main skill already applying these effects. I agree we should have more support that can be potentially used with auras to interesting effects, but the suggestion that most existing supports should work with auras is now well thought out. Like anubite said, auras are just buffs (though I wish there was also debuff auras). Their like a passive skill yet it is not. The auras are there to benefit you in anyway it can while being in the background.
The only thing that I am aware of that auras benefit from support gems are reduced mana gem (reduces a certain % of mana reserve from auras) and Increased AOE gem (basically, your auras grow in size). The only time I find useful for Increased AOE gem on auras would be when I have minions and/or I am constantly in a party. If you really want an aura to take in like life leech, just try to get the vitality gem, which in essence is a life regen aura. I hope this helps you out, OP. :) Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game. - raics, 06.08.2016 Last edited by JohnNamikaze#6516 on Feb 3, 2013, 1:09:49 AM
