Implicit mods on gear
OK, someone please explain this for me.
Sometimes gear has amazingly useful mods, obviously. Resistance ring's implicit stats are useful at any level, +30% res is a good step towards the maximum achievable. But sometimes we have mods that no matter what bracket they roll, are useless. Or we have implicit mods that have no variation... Iron ring...Adds 1–4 Physical Damage Paua Ring +(20 to 25) to Maximum Mana Moonstone Ring +(15 to 25) to maximum Energy Shield All these mods are barely useful at level 1, and rapidly become meaningless towards the end of Normal, let alone Cruel or Mercielss. Explicit mods increase with level, but even then in some cases are useless, but there is no ability to do anything with the implicit mode on items. Why can't Implicit mods vary according to item level? That way end game gear choice becomes more important, instead of everyone having specific gear or uniques, they can choose any item in the pool, knowing that the implicit mod is helpful all the way to end game. GGG have touted gear diversity as a goal, and yet offer such useless mods on so many items. Why? IGN: Kulde Last edited by Yxalitis#6223 on Feb 23, 2014, 11:23:28 PM

I think you're nitpicking where you need not be.

I agree with the general sentiment of OP. Coral Amulets are another example of just what's being described. A brilliant implicit mod, but not in any value near high enough to be considered by the ordinary player beyond level 1. Maybe if it were % based. I would hazard a guess that GGG has a reason for these, especially poor properties, but I haven't seen it published anywhere.
The justification I have heard was with regards to explicit properties. Weak properties like thorns, according to GGG, serve to dilute strong desirable properties. I have apprehension towards that. I imagine such dilution could still be achieved by further specializing properties without also rendering certain them necessarily useless to all characters. Furthermore, we already have a dilution mechanic in the form of lower range properties. It appears to me a waste of potential item diversity, of which the game desperately wants. " Well put. To deliberately create an item with useless mods that can never roll higher values simply to make that mod a "sucky" mod is a bad way to implement RNG difficulty on the way to excellent gear We already have so many mods that compete for a particular build..do you want physical or elemental damage? Plus to crits or spell damage? More health, ES, or evasion? Mana or attack speed. GGG please rethink this... IGN: Kulde

" It's interesting that you choose these three which all have uses end-game for different builds... I have one character for each of these rings; facebreaker, non eldritch battery caster, and CI user... The coral amulet one mentioned is one of the few that I have problems with. It's amazing is races, but end game it's trash... They need to change it to be percentage based. |

Paua amulet and Coral amulet are pretty useless yes. I think there is a case for them needing to exist just like life regen, light radius, and stun recovery need to exist on gear. Iron ring is good for Facebreaker. Moonstone ring is good for CI.

Looking at those corrupted item screenshots, where implicit mods can apparently be changed, this problem is about to disappear.
Some of the items lingering in my stash are about to become a lot more useful Dear Maligaro, I left my head in San Francisco, I lost my legs in Peru My liver and kidney are on holiday in Sydney And I am sending my Heart to you --- Love, Malachai Last edited by Flapdrol#5373 on Feb 24, 2014, 7:04:45 AM
