Was It The Undying Alchemist ?? In The Sewer Waterway (Act 3)
The Sewer Waterway, monster level 50... I'm level 54. Met up (unfortunately if it was random) with Undying Alchemist that was a huge pain if that is who it was. He's got green tinges and throws or shoots many little green poison bombs at you that rain down and a real pain avoiding.
Is that who it was? What is my defense against poison? We've got fire, lightning, and cold resistances and nothing for poison unless it falls under Chaos? I still don't focus on enemy details and you can't learn anything after they are dead. Fortunately I was close enough to a waypoint so I didn't have to waste town portals BUT what in the heck was the better way dealing with this guy? I guess one way is just to avoid him but then you won't likely get the monster level down to '0' before moving on which I always like to do. Sure took my level progress back too. ~<Ratsneve>~~<Looking for Simple Solo Solutions>~ Last edited by Ratsneve#4656 on Feb 11, 2014, 9:41:36 PM

Yeah it falls under chaos damage. Oh and by the way..

That was probably an exile. They appear randomly throughout the game. I get the feeling that you ran into Orra Greengate. http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Rogue_Exiles
Arguing on the Internet: What's the point when you can't punch them in the face when they really piss you off?

"Thanks for the info on this. BTW, this type of pain/enemy seems to be popping up now in Cruel. A different one that I couldn't kill in The Ebony Barracks just happened. He would heal himself while I died several times messing with him. The question is it looks like I can track these foes into an area I've finished with and then race out of there and that will leave them stuck out of the way--dumb AI? This means leaving a monster alive but it seems like that's one solution? I think this technique works with other foes too as none of them seem to follow my character forever--that's good. ~<Ratsneve>~~<Looking for Simple Solo Solutions>~ Last edited by Ratsneve#4656 on Feb 12, 2014, 11:17:19 AM

They are fairly squishy, though, so you can dispatch them quickly if you focus them. The bombs are also delayed, so walking away from them is possible (hard in the sewers). But yes, they can be difficult.

"What do you mean by "focus them"? One gamer's 'squishiness' is another gamer's nightmare in PoE. Nothing squishy about the rare that heals stealing life showing no progressive loss after minutes of trying. I'm trying to remember if the 'alchemist poison bomber' was a rare or not--can't? Not going back to look replay. :) Seems to me that GGG might add/introduce 'chemical resistance' into the game to include poisons and acids? What is 'chaos' or 'chaos resistance' anyway--what's left that isn't fire, lightning, or cold related? ~<Ratsneve>~~<Looking for Simple Solo Solutions>~ Last edited by Ratsneve#4656 on Feb 12, 2014, 11:40:25 AM

" You run to them and decisively smack them silly one at a time before they drop too many bombs, you can usually tell there's alchemists around from the little scuttling crab looking things coming at you (the alchemists pmuch always come in packs with those crabs, which usually move abit faster so I usually use the crabs as indicators in maps to know to be careful). If you are ranged, try to keep constantly moving to avoid bombs while taking them down 1 by 1, then clearing up what's left. They are kind of annoying but as mentioned die fast when focused. I usually lightningwarp in the face of the one I'm going to kill first provided it's not a blue pack (I'm ranged) and then keep warping around the room to avoid standing in poison (dying into desynced poisoncloud is kind of my biggest fear in this game). If your resistances are below 0, you will take more damage then you would take would they be 0, so having an amethyst flask with you where you know there will be heavy chaos damage is a good idea. Would recommend being careful if moving trough doorways, as if you get stuck on the doorway on the server you can find yourself desynched into a room with them standing in too much crap. <^..^> - meow! This is pretty much how I ended up wearing him down too, though I don't remember any of the crab-looking things you describe. I even had the flask putting me over 0 chaos but a few seconds active is very hard for me to manage well so who knows how much it helped. In the end I didn't even have to kill him where he was isolated and alone but I do like to get the '0 monsters remaining'.

No need to add 'chemical resistance'. It's already in the game and called chaos resistance. Poison is chaos damage. There is 45 chaos resistance in the tree and there are Amethyst rings that have chaos resistance as the implicit mod. Gear can roll up to 30 chaos resistance. You probably would have an easier time with those poison bombers if you upped your resistance to them.
