Raging Spirit Skill Interactions
Hello! I'm trying to theorycraft a build using trap + raging spirits, but the skill doesn't seem to interact properly with some of the low-life and/or trap damage modifiers.
I'm curious about this because I've read Mark's post on minion interactions with traps, but raging spirit is classed as: Fire, Spell, Minion, Duration. I assumed (seemingly wrongly, from my testing) that Pain Attunement would affect spirit damage when a trap triggered (as it is classed as a spell), but this doesn't seem to be the case. I'm also not seeing any damage difference from linking linking trap to summon raging spirit, as compared to just casting it myself. Trap should be giving 15% MORE damage, in addition to my passive nodes which are providing 27% increased trap damage. I suppose my question really is: Does the minion aspect of raging spirits over-ride the spell aspect? I assumed that they would both apply, creating a possibility for a very strong build with very little need to traverse the tree to hit an applicable damage node. (As spell damage, minion damage and trap damage would all apply) Has anyone done their own testing? I've so far just been linking/unlinking and low life/un-low lifing and testing on mobs strong enough to take ~8 hits. Edit: This is my current build. http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgYA3nfVT_v1tDjlGYw2UEItRxzckyd-sFu7cFHYVHZvtAxGceGIHar-SX_GwcXsGMNtj_p719vnMhim57MDb7xTMQZ3 I've also tested low-life with dual redbeak, with no apparent change in damage, whether I cast skulls or trap them out. The spell you're casting (that your passives, gear, etc. applies to) is Summon Raging Spirit.
The spell, Summon Raging Spirit, doesn't do damage; it summons a Raging Spirit that does damage. Therefor spell damage passives, trap damage passives, etc. don't apply to it. You need minion damage nodes. The Trap gem may give 15% more damage to your raging spirits (because that's a generic modifier that affects anything linked to the trap), but trap passives don't apply because the raging spirit is a minion, not a trap, even if it was summoned via a trap. 15% more damage could be moderately hard to notice, though, unless you test very thoroughly. This gets asked about all the time but for some reason my brain CBF to remember whether it applies. |

The above post is right, raging spirit actual damage is only effected by minion specific nodes/uniques. Spell damage and trap damage do not apply. Any damage boost gear you have only apply to you, not minions. This include redbeak, leheup etc.

" Trap and mine support (and their combo) do work. Trap passives don't because the damage bonus applies to you, but bonus from support gems applies to the skill on all levels and will affect the summoned minion. " This " They can only get +2 to gem level from searing touch if you socket them in it. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
