You don't lose resistances on death. In cruel or merciless difficulty, you suffer a permanent, passive reduction to your resistances.
There is no way to remove this reduction, and you must deal with it/get more on your gear to mitigate it. I'm disappointed in the mod that moved this to Gameplay Help but didn't take the effort to write that 1-2 sentences. Last edited by Crevox#7597 on Jan 26, 2014, 9:18:50 PM

There are just 3 sets of the same areas that ramp up in level and difficulty.
So, maybe lvl 1-40 is normal, 40-60 cruel, 60-70 merc, or sth like that. Once u unlock them u can move between them all u wamt, but you are subject to the house rules of each difficulty when in it So, i think when in a cruel area u have -20% res and suffer a minor xp loss on death -this is in standard legies. If u die in hardcore leagues that guy is moved perm to standard, or scrubcore, as it's known |

So you lose your resistances on death.. not the greatest thing, may as well start a new character every time u die lol

" No, no one said, everyone said the opposite of that. |

" err, see the two answers ^^. and yes, you may as well, it's the HC way. We tested it extensively

" You don't lose resistances. What happens is that when you reach Cruel difficulty you always have -20% applied to your resistances, and on Merciless you have -60%. All this means is that you need to get some resistances on your gear and maybe passive points to counter this. Every PoE player does exactly this. If you play on softcore, only thing you lose on death is XP. -5% to your XP progress on Cruel, -10% on Merciless every time you die. If you die on hardcore, your character gets moved to softcore. 177
