I had a dream (PoE and the open market)
|
Disclaimer : i know nothing about trade and economics only to have a fun time.
So i just thought about something, and i figured there is a way to increase drop rates without the devs doing anything about them. Imagine a 4-month league, and every player sells every single possible item for 1 chaos. I am talking, EVERYTHING here. Dream fragment? 1 chaos, a rare with 2 resis? 1 chaos, a shiversting? 1 chaos. I imagine this would effectively increase the orb value's and therefore the drop rates. Old prices for chaos orb are maintained. so 10 allts would still roughly be a chaos. Bad items would be sold for allts since a mere 20+ bad items can result in an upgrade. Obviously this is an utopia of honest people not commonly found in wreaclast, let alone it's entire community. But it would effectively allow every single person in the game to have a good time i think xD. And items might be crafted since a chaos is so easily made, why not craft a bit and buy an upgr 1 chaos (aka 20 min) later? Any thoughts on this idea? Edit : i should note that this totally contradict's the game's "cutthroat" style and makes it a place for hippy's. I'm not sure I understand, how would flooding the market with Chaos orbs increase their value?
*Edit: Oh, when you say sell do you mean trade? Last edited by ImAFckingDragn#0530 on Jan 9, 2014, 7:24:43 PM

I think there's a failure to understand supply and demand here. Set a price ceiling and you end up with scarcity.
6 people want an item, but there are only 3 of said item in existence. The price is not allowed to exceed 1 chaos, and all 6 are willing to pay. Who gets one? IGN: SplitEpimorphism Last edited by syrioforel#7028 on Jan 9, 2014, 7:23:36 PM

" Since they all are willing to pay a chaos, first come first serve. New items constantly enter/leave the market and since all are worth 1 chaos a new upgrade is around the corner for anybody. edit : " Yes, every single item traded for 1 chaos, rendering the perceived value of items useless. a chaos is easily farmed (usually around 10 allts for a chaos on hc league's) Obviously this would only work if the entire community pulled together and was honest about this, not hoarding items but playing a single character and finding upgrades for it. Wan't to buy an upgr? sell your low level decent gear for a chaos a piece, buy next tier upgrades from somebody also dumping his gear for upgr. The chain of selling/buying will continue. Crafting might even be viable with a system like this introduced, since every item would be worth 1 chaos. So people could craft and keep maybe 2/3 chaos in bank for if it fails. " I am well aware of why this suggestion would fail, and it has everything to do with greed and honor and hoarding. But in theory it is possible to make the orb drop rates function in our favor if we all pulled together and stopped harassing another to serve our own needs.(flipping/scamming/creating pixel wealth for ego stroking etc) Also the speed at which the market would function would increase, because all that would be left is "WTT for 1 chaos", no more "offer vs offer" situations slowing the market down, or simply resulting in a hoarder mentality waiting for that gullible person to scam. Everything for 1 chaos, preserving the old chaos ratio's would effectively increase the overall value of orbs to a point where crafting could be considered opposed to trading. And we as a community are the only ones stopping this from happening, we are in fact our own worst enemy's when it comes to crafting.
