How Pain Attunement applies to Summons
If I summon a minion while bellow 35% health will the minion have permanent 30% increased dmg? It doesnt make sense that the minion would suddenly gain dmg when my health is low since the skill is used when the minion is summoned.
I am applying this idea to both Zombies but mostly when summoning specters. If I always summon them when I am 35% health (blood magic + aura) then they should be permanently 30% stronger unless I am missing something? (Aura turned off after summon complete) Thanks for any feedback. IGN NihaloUndead Last edited by imcooleronline#6726 on Jan 2, 2014, 9:45:32 AM

PA gives spell dmg, not minion dmg, so it shouldnt work

Right, your spell damage stat doesn't affect minion strength and pain attunement clearly states 'more spell damage'.
Even if it said just 'more damage' it still wouldn't apply because your stats have nothing to do with minions, they have their own. Only things labeled 'for minions' affect them. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

I understand spell damage, but modifier gems will effect the specter summoned. For example, if I summon one of the minions from act 3 Battlefront that casts the arc lightning that is a spell they use. Now if I cast the 'specter spell' and it is a spell, it is not a physical attack. If I do this w low health and pain attunement would the minion and the spells not be 30% stronger?
I dont need people to interpret attunement's node description I am wondering if anyone knows of any investigating on the subject. If I were to cast a totem that does a spell while i had low health then that totem would do 30% more damage I would presume and a minion spell is of little difference. I do appreciate the feedback however, I disagree with the mislabeling as summoning something not being considered a spell. Maybe it wouldnt effect zombie physical damage, but a specter that casts, seems it should at a minimum effect that. IGN NihaloUndead

All skills that don't do weapon damage are technically spells, some do spell damage, some don't. Their behavior is tied to ingame mechanics, it goes something like this:
- you cast a 'summon zombie' spell - spell effect is 'consume 1 corpse, raise a zombie with base stats determined by gem level', as you can see, spell damage is nowhere to be seen - give that zombie appropriate bonuses from passives and linked gems, so if you linked culling, minion life, melee physical damage, added fire damage, it will have following bonuses: damage increased by 50% (from your minion passives, that's 'all' damage, spell, physical, elemental...) damage increased by 10% (from culling strike, again, all damage is affected) hits have culling strike 40% increased life (from passives) 30% increased life (from support) 30% more melee physical damage (zombies do only melee physical damage except with instability) 20% physical damage added as fire (zombies do only physical unless augmented in some way) If you raised a spectre that casts spells and linked it with cast speed, melee physical and added lightning and you have necro aegis and wear a shield that has spell damage and spell crit your spectre will have these: damage increased by 50% (from your minion passives, that's 'all' damage, spell, physical, elemental...) 20% increased cast speed 30% more melee physical damage (which will do nothing unless it decides to use a normal attack instead of a spell) 10-100 added lightning damage (to attacks and spells) 50% increased spell damage 80% increased spell crit chance You see, there's no way 'your' spell damage can affect damage of your minion, the game doesn't work that way. You have your own stats and bonuses and minions have their own, nothing of yours applies to them unless explicitly labelled so.
