1 hand weapons and 6 sockets
|
The game should allow for links on two one hand weapons or one hand weapon + shield to be linked to each other. Two handers allow for 6 sockets which along with 6 sockets on the armor gives a pretty big advantage over dual wielding or sword and board. Since one handers and shields allow 3 sockets each, why not allow for a way to link the sockets on these two items to make a 6 socket item.
An example for this would be the player specifies which two items should be linked and when using chromatics and fusings the two items will be treated as one. Last edited by vaskov17#7159 on Dec 31, 2013, 4:28:00 AM

Why should a 2H weapon behave in the same way as a 1H+shield, or a dual wielding setup?

Your way of looking at it is a little bit too narrow.
Yes, a 2hander does have an advantage in a 2nd possible 6link. But so do Dual Wielding and 1h + Shield have their advantages. Chance to block, more attack speed, defensive stats. It's about making a choice. Do you need 2 6links for your build? You might consider getting a 2hander. If not, 1h + Shield or Dual Wield might be better. Of course this is a very simplified view on the matter as there are more factors. |

" Actually I think getting a second 6-link item in dual wield or 1h+shield should open more possibilities for builds not narrow them. Also getting a 6-link is not very easy and a lot of people don't have a single one, so it's not like the game will be flooded with people using 1 hand weapons with two 6-link skills. |

Having two 5/6links is part of what differentiates 2-hand builds from other builds.
I agree getting a 5/6L should be made easier, but not like this. 1. It's non-intuitive. Linking has been pretty straight-forward and this complicates things. 2. Makes it much easier to get a 6L than any other build. 3. It makes 2-hand builds less special. |

Not gonna happen, as it gives dual/1HS+Shield an incredible advantage (double the available mods) compared to 2-handers.
Trading 6 Link for 6 Weapon/Shield mods at the moment That was, is and will be (stated as intentional by GGG for the forseeable future) I can imagine a unique 1hand in the future without mods that works "gems in the offhand count as linked to this item" - but think it unlikely Forums are SOOO much fun on patch day!
Casuals play because it's fun, not to achieve any goal unreachable with their resources. We are playing for the next difficulty, the next keystone, the next item upgrade. Not to feel better than anyone else. |

This is an extremely broken idea that yes ruins any balance there is between what makes 2h vs 1h+shield or dw builds good.

" Lol. There are three choices: 1. Two-handed weapon for a six-link and maximize your big hits. 2. Weapon and shield to maximize defense, as block acts as a second form of evasion. You give up damage potential in both sockets and weapon type, but gain a huge defense. Shields can also reflect damage, restore ES, and more. 3. Dual weapons. This doubles the amount of hits you do, which makes Life Gain on Hit with insane attack speed builds near impossible to kill. You don't do as much damage as a two-handed build, but you leech and gain life far better, and through that, are more survivable. TLDR: 2h weapons = damage and dual wielding/weapon and shield = defense Linking non-two-handed pieces will destroy the very advantage that two-handers have over non-two-handers. Very, very bad idea. -999 |

" Actually, Dual-Wielding doesn't double the amount of hits you do. You get a 15% increase in Attack Speed and a 15% chance to block. You alternate weapons when attacking with this 15% increased Attack Speed. With the default attack, a two-hander will do more damage than a dual-wield. It's when you use abilities like Dual-Strike, that dual-wield competes in damage with a two-hander. Please Support My Unique Ideas At - http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/753570

" Dual Strike: You hit with both weapons. Add Multistrike and you hit six times. Get a .2 or less attack speed and a Life Gain on Hit gem, and you'll be gaining life faster than anything else besides a Vaal Pact Discharger. The biggest reason to go for dual weapons is Dual Strike, so that's what I based that on. |
